Campus cops shoot, kill graduate student at California college

Campus police at California State University San Bernardino shot and killed a graduate student following an altercation Saturday night, authorities said.

Police said officers responded to University Village, an off-campus student dormitory, regarding a disturbance involving Bartholomew Williams, 38.

Williams became aggressive and an altercation with officers followed in the hallway of the dorm, the college said in a statement. Officers then fired their weapons because they feared for their lives, police said.

Williams died at the scene.

One officer was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injury.

Williams was majoring in educational instructional technology, and started at the school in the summer of 2011, police spokesman Sid Robinson said.

Why would cops use non-lethal force when killing someone results in paid time off? Use non-lethal force and go back to work the next day? No way!!

NRA folks make money when these things happened just like the accidental gun discharge by the father that killed his 7 year old son....oh guns do not kill according to NRA idiots.

You just said that the father killed the child. Did the gun do it by itself? Or are you confused?

Where are the gun control whackos now? Cops should not be allowed to have lethal weapons, to many instances of improper use of deadly force. What's next? Shooting the wino that refuses to get off the park bench?

Such outrage against the police. If this was Arizona or Florida, anyone in the dorm could have shot the idiot and claimed "stand my ground". The moral of the story is, don't get drunk and act like an ass and don't pick fights with guys with guns.

If not for a very powerful opposing force, Americans would raype, rob, kidnap, and murder each other like there's no tomorrow.
Without police, nothing works properly in the USA. Think of what life would be like (or worth) if there were no police over Americans.

As I read the above responses, I take it that most of these are from University students or graduates. You folks should go back to elementary school and learn how to compose and write the English language. I am amazed at the illiterate language coming out of you folks.

Bet it turns out to be more gun happy cops. They are as bad as the gangs who always shoot to kill. To hell with the posibility that they may have been able to shoot at someone's leg to stop them or taze them. Always gotta shoot at the person's heart or head. My cop friends, and I have many in our family too, say the unjust shootings are an epidemic in police forces. I used to think they were wrong. Now I'm starting to wonder. Of course we usually only hear the facts that help support the cops too so one never knows the whole truth. Sad how much life is under valued by so many people. No matter which side is at fault a life shoiuld not be taken unless 100% necessary. What ever happened to "cooler heads prevail"?

I I agree with you Debby.. I am shocked to hear/read they elected to go with the most lethal weapon they have. As far as shooting them in the head or chest... They are trained to shoot center mast.. I am surprised you friends who are law enforcement officers did not tell you this. If was a head shot, it was a floater shot or a sniper shot. They aim center mast.

You are only justified shooting someone in a situation where someone's life is in danger. If you have time to try to maim, you probably don't have a good defense for using lethal force.

You've been watching too many movies. LE is trained to shoot center mass (the largest and slowest moving component of the human body) and it just so happens that that is where all the squishy parts necessary for life are located.

Well the truth is known now, video and audio recordings show the cop killed the man without any reason, he just kept repeating "I'm in fear for my life" before as he was approaching what was apparently a barbecue.

Shoot at the legs of a person aggresively in motion? Do you think cops are Annie Oakley...and she never feared for her life while sharpshooting.

Wow okay cops are shooting people for no reason. They are trained in hand to hand combat, they have tasers, pepper spray they could have used any one of those but they shoot him. Just another sign of someone abusing their power.
