Campus police at California State University San Bernardino shot and killed a graduate student following an altercation Saturday night, authorities said.
Police said officers responded to University Village, an off-campus student dormitory, regarding a disturbance involving Bartholomew Williams, 38.
Williams became aggressive and an altercation with officers followed in the hallway of the dorm, the college said in a statement. Officers then fired their weapons because they feared for their lives, police said.
Williams died at the scene.
One officer was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injury.
Williams was majoring in educational instructional technology, and started at the school in the summer of 2011, police spokesman Sid Robinson said.

And there should be a required level of gun accuracy for gun-holding cops
These were campus police. There might be police veteran or two there, but probably not. These people are nowhere near as well-trained or supervised as most regular police. Arming them is insane, and this is why. I'm quite sure this shooting was completely unjustified. But asking people with hardly any life-and-death training to carry sidearms and discharge them at will is lunacy.
In California, the police are confronting one amazingly confrontational and explosive jack a** after another..... that the cops occasionally drop one of these lovely folks should be no surprise.
Are any of you praising the police for all of the insanely dangerous and abusive situations they endure while 99.999% of the time protecting even the nastiest, violent fools?
Two trained officers kill an unarmed man = no charges. A single untrained civilian in Fl kills an unarmed man = charges.
Someone needs to review escalation of force.
The cops are always in the wrong, right? If at 38 this looser has not gotten his degree, clearly, he did not have all the walnuts, in one bowl. Something else, was going on. Find out what led this "Student" to act up, before you blame it all on the cops.
Cops are all ways killing mental people- cops should not be allowed to carry guns-if cops are in willing to take risk they can get another job. cops pay the price when they shoot down people-people learn to shoot first when ever they feel threated by a cop then the cop dies-that is what these kinds of events do. As they say an eye for a eye-if a cop comes around.-they are the enemy of freedom!
Why is a 38 year old man living in a dorm?
He didn't pay his student loans.
Really wish they would report the entire story. All the local news have already reported but cnn wont allow me to link them. The man was aggressive toward police and after they were able to get one handcuff on he went crazy and attacked them. He grabbed for a baton and eventually got ahold of pepper spray. PEPPER SPRAY AND BATON STRIKES WERE INEFFECTIVE ON HIM. He then began swinging his cuffed arm, with the cuff as a make shift weapon. After he gained the upperhand on an officer he was shot and killed for fear of that officers life.
Campus Police (atleast in california) are sworn officers who have the same training and standards as any cop on the street. To say they should only carry whistles is just dumb. They deal with crime all the same.
You are such a lie!
More crap. Big Black man killed police fear for their lives, when they have batons, guns, pepper spray and special training. So what is new here. Nothing. Anther Black guy dead and vindication for the police. Wait! Here's a question. Has there EVER in the history of the country been a case where a cop was found guilty after killing a person of color? Be interesting to know that. The Jennings case in Texas was the first time in the history of the state where Whites were put to death for killing a Black man. Just curious. Suspect I already know the answer.
Randall Norris...........Why was his color important?
REALLY?
yeah, really? where has this guy been the last 400 years? some people are not the sharpest tack in the drawer, others not even in the drawer.
Many criminal police officers are just looking for oppurtunity to kill someone. Is it that easy to shoot a human being and kill him like that
Search the web for "Bartholomew Williams, 38" and read the Huffington post article INCLUDING HIS PICTURE ! ! ! !
Post your picture, but take your sheet off first.
he was working on his second masters degree. He was bipolar. He was black. The important piece of information is his bipolar disorder. I'm going to guess that his bipolar disorder was the issue, not his skin color. The color of someone's skin doesn't matter any more than their eye color or hair color, it is only important to those that feel it necessary to make generalizations.
Check out Huffington Post they have his blackness in the video at the beginning of the article.
38 and living in the dorms, that should be a news story in its own right lmao
Amen !
He was a grad student idiot & it was off campus housing so more than likely it was apartment style housing they dont have off campus dorms & this is America the only conutry where race is always an issue in every situation if you say its not you are dellusional
