Campus cops shoot, kill graduate student at California college

Campus police at California State University San Bernardino shot and killed a graduate student following an altercation Saturday night, authorities said.

Police said officers responded to University Village, an off-campus student dormitory, regarding a disturbance involving Bartholomew Williams, 38.

Williams became aggressive and an altercation with officers followed in the hallway of the dorm, the college said in a statement. Officers then fired their weapons because they feared for their lives, police said.

Williams died at the scene.

One officer was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injury.

Williams was majoring in educational instructional technology, and started at the school in the summer of 2011, police spokesman Sid Robinson said.

Jesus doesn't make much sense to most of US. What of it?

How do a few cops fear for their lives with an old almost 40 year old man? I don't want to stereotype but according to his major he was probably a nerdy type and not very athletic. Don't the police have mace, tazers, don't they have psychological training, don't they have the ability to retreat to safer ground and get a better perspective? How many American citizens must die at the hands of police? Why is America becoming a police state?

Well if he was a darkee, it's easy to understand why the were afraid.

You obviously have no training what so ever to be crying police state. If they were in the dorm, they can't just kinda hobble out the door. If the guy was on PCP or another narcotics, the only way they stop is if they are shot. If the officer was a small female, she will fear for her life differently than a large male. A lot of unknowns in the case, but you automatically blame the cops.

...not much of anything makes sense to a large part of US.
According to a 14 million dollar study done on the subject, about 1/4th of US adults have lost the ability to understand words unless there are pictures next to those words.
So there's little wonder why many here have a hard time understanding my comments. They simply can't. They could, if I posted actual pictures rather than word pictures.

Story doesn't say if Williams had a weapon. I think the police could have handled this better. Their guiding rules are to kill, kill, kill, then say they feared for their lives, blah blah blah. And, of course, they won't be charged.

Thank goodness for the police. No matter how good your "christian" kindness is, without police FORCE, your gifts of mercy would be stolen from you, and then you would be sodomized.

How can someone with a gun feel threatened by a guy who isn't armed and need to kill them???

The article does not state if the student was armed or not. You are jumping to conclusions without all the facts

Right. Because people are never killed by anything other than a gun. Pull your head out and think before you speak.

For a fact, without an opposing FORCE, Americans would raype, rob, sodomize, and murder each other from the face of this earth.
Nothing good that you do has ANY impact without a police FORCE behind it.

Without police, we honest individuals would all be killed off by criminal Americans. Get a clue already.

Get a clue – get a gun. Either way it's up to you to defend yourself because the police won't always be close by.

@ArchieDeBunker – Much like the character Archie Bunker, you are clueless. Possession of a gun does not guarantee safety. We had somebody who was recently murdered who had a legally concealed gun and yet when the situation occurred he did not even have a chance to get the gun out of the holster. No, he was not negligent but sometimes things happen that quickly. I am not anti gun but then again we don't need everybody going around packing heat.

Oh I beg to differ. We are retooling something's and have falling behind in others but make no mistake, we are still "the great", and there is still NO close second. You tell me which of them you would like to see as the world's superpower. By the way, our crime has been falling since the 1960's even while our population increased
