If you were hoping for some good news on the NHL season, well, you're going to have to keep hoping.
The league announced on Monday that games through December 30 have been cancelled after the players' association and the NHL could not reach a new collective bargaining agreement.
If you're playing along at home this brings the total number of cancelled games to 526.

I'm am lucky that I go to ECHL games. I have been a stockton thunder ticket plan holder for about 6 years now. I get my hocket fix on a regular basis.
Hockey's regular season is little more than an 80 game exhibition season anyway. Maybe the players will be fresher for the playoffs.
i do miss watching the NHL, but there may be some good news.... Just heard of a new hockey league called the BHL (bikini hockey leaugue) – hot chics in bikinis playing roller hockey with fighting. Sounds good to me!!!!
Hockey will never recover this loss not only in $$$ but there new to hockey" fan base"
Hockey? Hmmmm.....not interested. The only time I watched Hockey is when they show the highlights on sports center. Even then I wouldnt pay too much attention to it. Its a dying sport...I dont even think I know anyone that likes Hockey. Hockey is kind of like watching a homeless guy pee in the corner....you know its not right, but you accept it because you are trying to be open minded.
You've obviously never been to a game, nor do you have a large circle of friends.
Yeah, clearly you've never been to a hockey game or you don't understand how it's played. If you did, you'd realize it's the 2nd or 3rd most popular major sport in the world... But hey, enjoy watching a baseball pitcher scratch his junk, that's exciting!
It's a dying sport? Wow man put down the pipe, last season grossed 3.3 Billion. It's expanding if anything, well it will as long as they srart playing again soon before we all give up on them.
You should go stand in the corner and get a closer look at what that homeless guy is doing.
At this point, do us all a favor and cancel the whole season. You are making a mockery of the sport and it's fans. If the season were to resume now, what satisfaction would any team have winning the Stanley cup knowing that it won in 1/2 of a season or less? The season is marred and the fans are angry. PLEASE. cancel the season. Solve your differences ad let's start 2013-14 fresh.
who cares
NHL should close doors forever.
I get confused when people say Hockey is the worst sport. I don't see how it can be. It has everything all the other sports have that make them great in one. If you like football, you like big hits. Hockey has it, at much higher speeds! Bigger boom. If you like basketball, you probably like good passing and dunks or massive rejections by the centers. Hockey goalies robbing a goal on a breakaway is the same thing. You like baseball, well... maybe it's the drinking, or perhaps the strategy behind a lineup or the diving catch for that 3rd out. Hockey has beer, and line change strategies are done ON THE FLY by coaches. Player substitutions during play only happens in Hockey.
@Todd – Hockey's not a dying sport. It's just expensive. That's pretty much the only reason why people shouldn't like hockey.
wow
Bye Bye hockey. It's the red headed step child of main stream professional sports anyway. The players are way overpaid. Hopefully the whole league folds. I'm tired of overgrown children, owners and players alike, arguing how to split millions and millions of dollars. For the players union to even try to act like they are anyting like the hard working people of the blue collar unions is a joke. This is in no way a labor dispute.
Gary Bettman is THE WORST SPORTS COMMISSIONER EVER!!!!!
Almost every one of my die-hard Toronto Maple Leaf loving pals have said ENOUGH! Let the billionaires and the millionaires go jump in a lake. Cancel the season and bring on baseball!
The worst part is that they could have extended the previous agreement through this year and not have had to cancel any games. Yes, it would just be a temporary patch, but it would have given them up through the next off-season to reach a long-term agreement and avoided this costly lockout; and costly it is. Aside from the die-hard followings in the Northeastern cities, hockey severely struggles in the U.S. If the league is seen as too weak to even provide a season every year people will never take it seriously. Why should they? As much as I love hockey, there is no answer to that question. The worst part is that it is an insult to hockeys greats. Even if you hate hockey or sports in general, you've got to hate humanity (or be a Flyers fan
) to not admire someone like Mario Lemieux.
Hockey is one of the hardest to watch on TV. BUT go to a game and it becomes one of the best sports going. Whereas NFL football sucks when your sitting in the stands....But is great on TV!
I agree Portland T. I been to both and you are right.
