The number of journalists jailed around the world reached a record high in 2012, with Turkey the worst offender, the New-York based Committee to Protect Journalists said in a report Tuesday.
As of December 1, 232 reporters, photographers and editors were in prisons in 27 countries, jailed on charges of "terrorism" and crimes against the state intended to "silence critical voices," the group said.
The figure is the highest since the organization began record-keeping in 1990. Until now, the record was 185 set in 1996.
The top five jailers are:
Turkey: 49
Iran: 45
China: 32
Eritrea: 28
Syria: 15

I do not know them.
need a lot of them jailed here for fraudulently claiming to be journalists when all they do is right opinion pieces and heavily slanted garbage......maybe China is right on this one?
While we in US don't shoot or jail our journalist, arab chinese and a few others are fair game if they are near any US targets, we just don' t hire them or give them any outlets for their stories.
Take Navarette, please.
Wow, I actually don't have a problem with this. I hate libs and the majority of journalists are libs. Lock 'em up and throw away the key!
This liberal sends hate right back to your consertive undereducated rectum!
The real issue is that journalists aren't above the law, even if the law is unjust. How many normal people are jailed in many of those same countries for the same reasons, or are they unimportant because they aren't journalists?
A lot of non journalist decenters are either jailed or killed in China.
Where's the US number? The US has the most bullying, lying news media in the world. China's news media is a better government watchdog than the US's!
Journalists jailed, kinda like a 100 lawyers at the bottom of a pool, it's a good start!
