Four people have been found dead today in a Colorado house in an apparent murder-suicide, a Weld County sheriff's spokesman has told CNN's Christine Sever.
The dead are two men and two females and all are believed to be related, the spokesman, Tim Schwartz, said.

I question why there is even a national association whose sole purpose is to get together and talk about their firearms and right to bear them. Seems like a pretty odd club. Maybe a prerequisite to joining one of those Civil War re-enactment groups. Koo Kooooooo.
This is irresponible journalsim if you ask me. We just had one the worst mass shootings in US history and the reporter who wrote this story deemed this murder as a "shooting" as if to imply it was on the scale of Newtown CT. Horrible simply horrible to use the massacre that was Friday to sell your story.
I agree completely. There was a news story of a "shooting" in Grand Rapids that involved three people. Yes, it's still a tragic loss to the families of the victims, people were still shot, and it still involved the irresponsible use of firearms. But I read the article's headline of both this story and the Grand Rapids one thinking that dozens of people died. Maybe headlines should be worded differently in the future to prevent this sort of confusion?

How many people died in the past 10 years in the U.S. from .50 caliber machine gun fire? I'm thinking none and it's because these guns are illegal. The question is where do we draw the line on what's allowed and what's not. I'm thinking that the line should be what the purpose of the gun is. If it's solely for killing people, outlaw it (target practice doesn't count). If it serves another purpose (hunting), allow it.
Actually Jim, in 33 states where full auto is legal, there are many, many legally owned 50 cal machine guns. You might want to look into that.

Well the kids that were hidden didn't get killed. They've been able to tell what their teacher did. So I guess it worked.

Actually, most of the mass shootings that have happened involved legally obtained guns, Sandy Hook included. I think Americans should be granted the right to bear arms, but do they need to be guns of this type?

Assault weapons should be banned.
You know a lot of people don't understand what an assault rifle is nor it's functionality. A semi-automatic rifle fires EXACTLY like a handgun. One trigger pull per bullet. The only difference between an assault rifle (S.A.) and a handgun is the magazine size. The Newtown shooter could've killed the same amount of people with the two handguns he was carrying. Assault rifles (most, not all) have a smaller caliber than handguns. The AR-15 using a 5.56mm bullet. The Glock he used carried a 9mm caliber. I think people should be more responsible if you own owns. If his mother knew he had "issues," then weapons shouldn't have been in the house OR they should've been locked up SECURELY in a gun safe. Even still, with young and immature people in the house, they should've been locked away and unattainable.
Correct. Everyone is getting brain washed by what the media calls an assault weapon. That they are something completely different than any other weapon-which is not the case at all.

Actually an assault rifle by definition is the ability ti fire a 3 round automatic burst or full automatic.
Don't play propaganda. Assault rifles are far more accurate than pistols and are intended for use with high-capacity cartridges. Pistols can be fitted for them, but are not designed for maximum killing accuracy, and are therefore unwieldy and not nearly as efficient. There is no possible argument for assault rifles unless you are trying to protect yourself against the government.

Anniesbirds – You are absolutely right. It seems to be the mis-informed that are touting the assault weapons ban. Any semi-automatic pistol can be just as lethal as a small caliber AW like the Bushmasters that have be used in the latest shootings. The world is saturated with guns-no one will every be able to get rid of guns, so forget that route. The common denominator lately has been mental illness. Keeping the mentally ill disarmed, legally or illegally, is where the focus needs to be. Truthfully, I don't have any AW and don't want any AW, so I have no bias towards them. I just want something to be done so that I don't have to hear about people being massacred and addressing mental illness is the key.
Are you delirious? Sandy Hook was not done with legally obtained guns? His mother was the legal owner. He murdered her to obtain them. I'm pretty sure murdering someone for guns is illegal. Maybe you'd better check that for me.
I believe what is being related here is that the guns were obtained legally, by the mother, then stolen and used in an illegal manner, by the shooter.
And this guy was probably a well-respected, gun license carrying memeber of his community.
How do we change people's hearts? Make them respect each other instead of kill each other? Guns are an easy weapon. Take them away and you still have knives, swords, box cutters, automobiles, airplanes, poison and homemade bombs for starters. People kill. They're the ones who need to be changed. Guns can be obtained illegally. Gun control won't stop murders. Put God and Jesus back in people's lives and our schools and you'll see the murder rate drop.

The arguement that if the person did not have a gun he would have used something else does not make sense. You would at least have a chance of fighting off an attacker that was not armed with a gun.

I cannot get my head around why Americans think it is ok to legally by guns. Guns are made for killing. Who the hell knows what is going on in someones head. Their background check could be absolutely clean yet you're enabling this person to have a killing machine. The argument "the gun isn't the killer, to person is the killer" isn't valid. Don't let it be that easy to kill someone. If you want to have personal protection, get a knife.
