Obama signs fiscal cliff bill into law

President Barack Obama has signed into law the bill to avert the fiscal cliff.

The new law preserves the Bush-era tax cuts for individuals earning less than $400,000 and couples making less than $450,000 per year, and extends unemployment benefits.

The Senate passed the bill Tuesday morning and the House passed it Tuesday night.

The White House received a copy of the bill late Wednesday afternoon, a senior administration official told CNN. Obama, on vacation with his family in Hawaii, directed the bill be signed by autopen.

Read the bill (pdf).

How they voted: House | Senate

Is the autopen legal? Read the Justice Department's opinion (pdf).

Questionable remark. Considering if Romney were President you wouldn't have a paycheck at all. Your job would have been offshored.

And why did OB have to fly back to Hawaii. Aren't we trying to trim the deficit? Many of us vacation at home due to high costs. But then he isn't spending his money, he is spending our money to pay for his trip. What a phony.

Well he has taken only 74 days of vacation since he took office. Now go look up your republican presidents that preceded him and then I bet we hear nothing but silence as a response to this post.

direct quote from CBS News Website on obama Vacation compared to George W Bush and Ronald Reagan:
"So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch. Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off - 28 days."

Richard, if Hawaii is his home, why does he have to rent a room when he goes there?
His home is Chicago. Hawaii only became his home when he was able to vacation there at no cost to himself.

      Oh, for heaven's sake!
The President went there to attend the Hawaii's sentator's funeral, and to spend some time at his birthplace state.
      Grow the heck up.

Very questionable statement. Considering the biggest welfare handouts in the history of America came out of the middle class and poor peoples tax money in the form of 900 billion bail out funds known as TARP. Due to their poor choices and reckless behavior the American people bailed out the worlds largest banks, auto makers, and mortgage companies to keep the rich.......RICHER. Not a very good statement now was it!

Chevy is dead, that's why I drag chevy junk to the shop on a daily basis with my toyota. 10 years of dragging crappy chevys and it hasn't had a single malfunction yet. 200,000 on the odometer and absolutely nothing has gone wrong, not even a burned out headlight. Al Qaeda is very much alive, that's why the American embassy was the target of Al Qaeda's terror attacks. Al qaeda is stronger now than they ever were during the Bush administration.

Signed the bill and quickly back onto Air Force 1 so he could go back to Hawaii. He is not the only president to abuse AF1, all of them do but that does not make it right. I know it is a bit off topic, but we are talking about tens of thousands of dollars every time AF1 takes off, then multiply it by 2 because the backup plain is always close by just in case. And that is not including paying the support personnel on both planes.

With technology the way it is these days I do not see the president having to leave DC as often as a president may have 20 or 30 years ago. If we want to talk about cutting spending, here is a great place to start. If the use of AF1 was cut by even half, we are talking tens of millions of dollars between fuel, per diam (for support personnel), hotel expenses...the list goes on.

As I said, Obama is not the only president to do it...Bush, Clinton, HW Bush, ect ect ect.

Obamanomics: what do you mean we.are broke? I will just write a check. What do you mean I have work to do? That's why I am on vacation. What do you mean I can't tax the rich? It would be wrong to ask shaquita to earn her own way.
