Hillary Clinton back at work - with a football helmet

Hillary Clinton went back to work as secretary of state this morning and was greeted by colleagues showing off their sense of humor.

First off, we got the official State Department photo of her hosting the weekly meeting of assistant secretaries of state. All very appropriate.

But then came word from spokeswoman Victoria Nuland that there had been some teasing too.

Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides handed Clinton a box, saying, "As you know, Washington is a contact sport."

"Inside was a football helmet with a State Department seal,  lots of good padding and also a football jersey that said Clinton on the back and on the front it says #112 which symbolizes the number of countries she visited as secretary of state," Nuland said.

"She loved it.  She thought it was cool.  But then being Hillary Clinton she wanted to get right to business."

Clinton had been out for a while, being treated for a blood clot.

That are a lot of assistants in the pictures. I would like to know how much each one of them makes? Do we really need all of these people on the public payroll?

Oh, katie, give me a break. You really think there is only a handful of people who work for the State Department? And I bet you were one of the ones who complained that State had dropped the ball in protecting the ambassador. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Seriously Katie, that is a pretty sad comment. I suspect you just looked for something negative to say and that was the best you could come up with

She will need the helmet if she ever bothers to show up for the Benghazi hearings.

"Back to work" is a bit of an overstatement. She has about a week left on the job.

Something must be wrong with Hillary. She keeps falling down. She keeps falling down boarding planes, she fell and broke her elbow, she fell and got a concussion. I'm not so sure that helmut is a joke. Everyone around her knows she can fall down at any moment. Weird. Do we know if she has some sort of illness?

Balance issues are not at all unusual for someone her age, male or female. That's why one of the best things you can do for yourself as you age is engage in regular exercise that keeps your muscles strong and your reflexes quick.

Maybe the helmet will protect her when she pretends to fall down again.
