ESPN apologizes for Musburger comments on quarterback's girlfriend

The attention that Brent Musburger gave to the girlfriend of Alabama's quarterback during last night's championship college football game apparently made ESPN a little uncomfortable.

ESPN on Tuesday afternoon apologized for the play-by-play man's gushing about Katherine Webb's beauty as the network showed her in the stands at the game Monday night.

"We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that," ESPN said.

CNN was not able to reach Musburger for comment through ESPN.

"Wow, I'm telling you, quarterbacks you get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman. Wow!" Musburger said during one of his several in-game comments. Webb subsequently became an Internet sensation as Alabama trounced Notre Dame. Read more about Musburger's comments, the public's reaction, and the reaction from Webb herself.

Oh come on people! WOMEN LOVE KIND OF ATTENTION. I just wish I were younger, skinnier and prettier that I could be so lucky to look like her. I miss the looks and smiles I used to get long, long ago from men. Boys, go ahead and enjoy her good looks. Compliment her. She's a beautiful woman and truly a masterpiece of womankind. We're taking this "polical correct" thing way too far. And by the way, us "girls" enjoy looking at good-looking men and make the same kind of comments. The only difference is that women aren't criticized for doing so.

Unless Mr. Musberger went overboard and said something like "What bodacious ta tas she has", and, admittedly, I don't know what else he said, I see nothing wrong with commenting on how beautiful she is; she is beautiful!

Catching up on this story, and I'm confused. So Brent M – he has to apologize because the woman is pretty? Or Does she first have to prove she is not beautiful? Anywhoo, about the only attractive thing on the 4 hr game last nite.

I don't think he did anything wrong. A lot of hoopla over nothing.

I am a E S P N fan and I don't think Brent was rude at all. He was being very complimentary of the young lady. This is Miss Alabama, she walked across a stage in a bathing suit so I don't think a little admiration from a 73 year old man really embarrassed her. I'm sure the young lady didn't mind all the attention. So pull up your jock E S P N, redirect the blood to your brain and get your mind out of the gutter.

This is getting more and more ridiculous. Television cameras have searched and shown beautiful women in sports facilities for decades and no one ever said that it was offensive. Our entire commercial life is based on advertising beauty in both men and women. So Brent is showing his appreciation of a beautiful woman and is being criticized and the network is apologizing. If the networks feel that it is unacceptable to "exploit" beauty, they should reject all ads that use that very same attribute to sell their stuff. Have people lost all sense of balance or reality?

He said nothing to apologize for, he stated the obvious and did it professionally. What's next Alabama apologizing for scoring to many points?

Mr Musberger is right on the money and only an idiot would think he was out of line. If I saw her walk by I'd probably walk into a telephone pole lookin at her!
