[Updated at 5:38 p.m. ET] A part-time student at a business and arts college in St. Louis shot and wounded a school employee Tuesday before wounding himself at the institute, St. Louis police said.
The suspect, who apparently shot himself, and the Stevens Institute of Business and Arts employee were taken to a hospital, where they were in surgery Tuesday afternoon, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson said.
Police officers responding to a 911 call found the employee, identified only as a man in his late 40s, wounded in the school in downtown St. Louis. Officers then found the wounded suspect in a stairwell, as well as a handgun that investigators believe was used in the shooting, Dotson said.
Other students, faculty and staff members "headed for the doors" after the shooting and were taken to "an offsite location" to be interviewed by investigators, Dotson said.

Sorry if my heart goes out to some poor guy who was just at work who fell victim to random violence but not for gang members who engage in crime for a living. I think that's reasonable.
Personally i like how it has to be a gang member yet if it was some innocent bystander as it usually is and in hs or lower at that. Why didnt you just say your real feelings, they were in a poor black neighborhood so who cares. I hate how racism thrives still in this day and age.
Were the Chicago shootings gun-toting hoodlums firing at each other or an individual shooting an innocent person?
Not to downplay the tragedy of inner city crime, but if you choose to live that lifestyle you take your chances.

I have never seen such hatred toward one another, Obama has torn this country apart pitting one against the other, black against white, gay against straight so on. People are losing hope and theviolence guns shootings are a direct result. Sham on Obama and the way he chooses to pit us all against one another. This are sad days in our history
I drove right past this place today, I have several business accounts within walking distance of this school. The funny thing is that if you go 3 blocks north of this place, you are in the ghetto of north st. louis, one of the most crime ridden areas in the country, and you never here a peep on any national news program or website.
The gun news is only broadcasted to sway public opinion; "another shooting at a school, we must ban guns" is what they will say. Perhaps it is recieving more attention than before, or people are seriously insane to the point where they are copying the tragedy at the elementary school.
I guess it is easier to remove guns than fix a broken culture.

Why would you operate on the shooter? That's valuable medical resources wasted on someone who is just going to waste vital judicial resources in a ridiculously drawn out and unnecessary trial. Just let him die!
