Olympic Committee asks Armstrong to return his 2000 bronze medal

The International Olympic Committee has stripped Armstrong of the bronze medal he won at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, an IOC spokesman said Thursday. The committee has told Armstrong to return it.

That news came on the day when the first part of Armstrong's 2 1/2-hour interview airs on Oprah Winfrey's OWN cable network and the Internet Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.

While Winfrey has not released details of exactly what Armstrong said in the recorded interview, she appeared to confirm media reports Tuesday that the former seven-time Tour de France champion admits doping and lying about it.

How can a person sleep at night knowing their whole life is built on a lie? Armstrong and Madoff are cut from the same cloth.

He is a cheat, makes Ben Johnson look like a child. Needs to go out of the radar.

Seven years of crushing the dreams of honest athletes (what few remained). What a symbol of hope for patients with cancer (sarcasm). At this point, I wouldn't put it past him if the whole "I almost died from testicular cancer" story is a fraud

Wonder where the cycling world would be if all dopers were taken out of consideration? Anybody left?

This is the KEY argument. Bicycling has been the most doped sport in history. Don't condone what Lance did, but is was SO commonplace.

He won't return it. Texans do not play by the same rules as the rest of us.

As he should return them. Too bad he robbed the careers of the men who actually would have won the Tour medals – cleanly, without doping.

He should give it back. The sad thing is that the person in 4th, who should have won it and may now get it more than a dozen yeasrs later, will also have a tainted meday and may well have been robbed of the reward deserved for his hard work.

Why people in this country are soo shocked about this liar? Isn't this a country full of liars?. Judges, lawyers, politicians, etc...get away with lies. Therefore, It should not surprise anyone when someone lies in order to get what he wants.

is there any proof other than what other people have said? is there any blood evidence or anything.. not up on it that's all wondering if this is all persecution by accusation with no backing.

Yes, there is lots of evidence. Google the whole story. Read about how he went after people who testified against him, ruining their lives, using his power to blacklist them, make them lose their jobs, their homes and incomes. He won millions in libel suits. He needs to pay all this back and have his medal taken away. He needs to make amends.

If he has to give back the medals are they gonna take all of the medals of the former East German athletes that all doped!?! No, so get over it. The IOC is a fraud in itself, messing with athletes year after year. And the Olympics are not what they used to be it is a joke

He probably wasn't juiced up during the Olympics, that is why he only won the bronze.

Let him keep the Bronze. Getting the bronze instead of gold is probably what led him to doping. ;-)

While every one is joining the Lets Beat up on Lance bandwagon, remember what this guy has done on the positive side. SHAME ON YOU ALL! Let only those that are without sin cast the first stone! Hypocrites! I don't care that he doped or not. But in order for others to win, he must be destroyed. He'll come out of this one and stronger, he is a winner.

Beware – apparently you are delusional. God tells us to forgive, that's true. And a lot of people will with time. The wounds are deep right now. The thing that gets me with him is the fact that he sued people for slander and libel and won! He deliberately went after the people who testified against him using his power and influence. One couple who testified and TOLD THE TRUTH lost everything they had. She was blacklisted by the cycling group, he lost his job, they lost their home, endured people ostracizing them and basically were ruined. I was watching an interview with them the other night and it was heartbreaking. To go after someone like that is the lowest thing he did. He ruined lives and made millions. Kind of outshadows anything positive he did. A shame.
