Former New Orleans mayor Nagin charged with bribery, fraud

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, who captured the drama of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 with an "SOS" call to the nation, was indicted Friday on 21 federal corruption charges, including bribery, money laundering, fraud and filing false tax returns.

Nagin (pictured) allegedly defrauded the city through "a bribery and kickback scheme" in which he received checks, cash, wire transfers, personal services and free travel from businessmen seeking contracts and favorable treatment from the city, the 25-page federal indictment says.

So, I guess the point of this report is that New Orleans machine was operating "Business as usual" during Katrina?

The profiting of the suffering of by the losses of those that he was to serve. He needs held accountable for actions an the profits should be forfitied an put in to a fund for those that had been in the flood.

The best comment I've heard so far; he wanted New Orleans to be a chocolate city. Now he'll be packin' fudge along with Sally Decker in Statesville prison.

It will take forever to prosecute him and even longer if New Orleans tries to recoup their money, same as Detroit with Kwame Kilpatrick! Detroit went broke trying to get him to repay and they are just throwing more good money after bad continueing THAT battle.

@TvNyC, thats kinda my point too. Why waste tens of thousands more tax payers money trying to get back tens of thousands of money he scammed when you know youre never gonna get it back? Throwing good money after bad doesnt work! Prison timd is sufficient and ban him from politics!

Nagin's concept of a "chocolate" New Orleans is completely disgusting.
How would Nagin feel about working toward an Asian New Orleans, or an all-White New Orleans?
Does Naqin think that "God intended" a "vanilla" Boston?
Nagin represents the very worst of racism.

And @ Joey, thank goodness they deleted most of the comments that were agreeing with that post. Unfortunately there are still a large amount of racists still in this country. They dont evolve quick.
