CNN Poll: Do Americans agree with Obama on climate change, immigration?

President Barack Obama used his second inaugural address to put the divisive issues of climate change and immigration back on the front burner.

But according to a new national survey, Americans are divided over whether global warming is a man made phenomenon.

According to the poll, which was conducted last week, 49% agree with the White House that global warming is a proven fact and is due to emissions from cars, power plants and factories. That's twice as high as the number who say that global warming has not been proven, as well as the 24% who say that it is a proven fact but is not due to manmade sources. But the 49% figure is down seven points from 2007.

The president also used his speech to highlight the controversial issue of illegal immigration, and a CNN/ORC International survey released Tuesday also indicates that a bare majority of the public says the main focus of the federal government should be on developing a plan that would allow undocumented immigrants to become legal residents, rather than deporting them.

Have you noticed that our presidents seem to age before our eyes while in office and then "recuperate" and look better when they leave?

He has aged quite a bit in 4 years...such a job would age even the most youthful-looking.
    I liked his speech yesterday.
I expect to get bashed for that sentiment.

And who wouldn't age in that job? No matter what you do, half the people, Congress and media are all bent out of shape.

As for climate change, I suspect if the Confederacy had succeeded in leaving the Union, taking with it the oil companies and much of America's evangelical population, then it would be closer to 90% acknowledging the problem and less than 10% mistaking the Bible for scientic writing.

We are doing just as much damage "below" the surface by pumping out 85,000,000 (million) barrels of OIL a DAY.
You take the oil out of my engine, and it heats up too! DON'T MESS WITH WHAT MOTHER NATURE HAS CREATED OVER MILLIONS OF YEARS...............

Interesting analogy. I didn't realize that the earth's core had moving metal parts that require constant lubrication.

Whether climate change is man made or not it will certainly be to our advantage to at least slow it down using the tools science has given us without disrupting our economy. We all know weather patterns are changing and are definitely increasing in their intensity. Approaches like burying electrical power lines and better coastal land use would be a practical beginning to slowing down the impact of the ever stronger and expensive storms. Radical measures to change the US's air pollution overnight aren't going to do anything in the short term and to be effective would need worldwide support!

There has always been weather and will always be fluctuating in temps. In the Southwest, anytime a record high is broken, it was usually set in 1914. It must have been those Model T's polluting the atmosphere then; all 400 of them. If the AL Gore nuts had not been cooking the books by closing down weather sensing centers in the cooler climates, you might believe their scams.

I agree with Brew, you take out the creamy middle and it changes the whole construction of a twinkie. I had a wordy and scientific answer, Ancient Texan, but CNN would not print it.

Yep we just voted for 4 more years of the same disaster we had the last four years, so the bottom of the drain is getting closer.

Chicken little says the sky is falling and he can fix it if you buy his carbon credits so he can give illegal immigrants free drivers' licenses so they can "legally" drive while I have to pay $132 every 5 years for a special ID just so I can keep a job to pay for it all. I have a better idea: plant some trees and deport illegal immigrants or force their home country to become America's 51st state.
