Watch out for rough weather

People in the Mississippi River Valley could be in for some dangerous weather Tuesday, the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center warns.

Very cold air surging southeastward will clash with warm, moist air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico; a line of severe thunderstorms is expected to erupt along the cold front that separates the two air masses, CNN meteorologist Sean Morris said.

"This could be a particularly dangerous and deadly event due to the rapid movement of the storms and the tornado threat increasing during the overnight hours, causing people in the storms' paths to be caught unaware," Morris said.

A few of these storms could produce tornadoes across parts of Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Apart from tornadoes, these storms could produce damaging thunderstorm winds that could cause injuries and fatalities, knock down trees and cause widespread power outages and property damage.

Cities included in the moderate risk area, which is the region most likely to experience tornadoes, include:

  • Memphis, Tennessee
  • Little Rock, Arkansas
  • Shreveport and Alexandria, Louisiana
  • Jackson, Mississippi

Cities included in the slight risk area, where damaging thunderstorm winds and isolated tornadoes are possible, include:

  • St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri
  • Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Dallas, Waco and Lufkin, Texas

The severe weather threat will continue into Wednesday across the Southeast, Morris said. The primary threat will be damaging thunderstorm winds and isolated tornadoes. States that could experience severe thunderstorms and tornadoes on Wednesday include:

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

Here in St. Petersburg FL, The Sunshine City, at 6:00 AM, it's 66 out and should get to 82 today with nothing but beautiful weather! Appears we'll only drop 14 degrees by Thurs. Back to long wear again.

I also live in Pinellas County and would welcome some cooler weather. The coolest we've had in the last few months is upper 40's overnight a couple times. We are already having allergy problems because of Oak pollen!

Good luck to those in the path of this predicted nuisance weather. We're experiencing unusually mild weather around Detroit until Thursday, rain, fog and the kitchen sink. Thursday we freeze again.

I know it is almost 70 here in Arkansas, just south of Little Rock. Damn strange weather for Jan., but we are watching the radar closely!

I woke up to 35 here in the low desert of Arizona. Quite a change from 58 yesterday morning. I didn't expect it, the weather man (Charles Barkley) on ABC didn't go into all that. Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't have radar either.

Our predicted high today in North FL is 88 degrees F – about 20 degrees too hot! By Thursday, the morning after the front comes over us, the high will be in the mid-60s. It's almost like Spring is already here. We have had an extremely mild winter.
