A chain-reaction accident Thursday on Interstate 75 killed at least three people and injured 15-20 others in Detroit, state police said.
The accident started shortly before 9 a.m. over the Rouge River Bridge, said Robert Morosi of the Michigan Department of Transportation. At least 30 cars were involved in the pileup, he said.
Snow was falling at the time of the crash, Morosi said, describing conditions as a "typical Michigan winter morning."
The jaws of life were used to pull people out of three vehicles, State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said.
FULL STORY

Actually there are four dead, 3 children and 1 adult.
This is at least the 5th multi car pile up since Thanksgiving. We must ban all cars now, or at least "car control" no more cars that carry more than two people or go more than 20 mph.
It's as logical as banning how much ammo my weapon can carry
You, sir, are one of the reason's we, as a society, have forfieted our "right" to keep and bear arms.
Wow Texan. I'll just assume that you posted that to get attention and that you are not really the self loathing ignoramus that you sound like.
A typical gun owner response. Family members were lost and you have to bring up guns. You definitely showed your intelligence and with that said, it's scary you have a gun.
Yeah, its all about you isn't it? Arrogant, self-serving and ignorant.....you are what is wrong with this country these days. Complete lack of empathy.
Why do you feel you need a high-capacity magazine, and what does that have to do with a traffic pile-up with fatalities?
This made me LOL. Not sure why people are going off about your post, it IS true.
Cars have an intended purpose: to transport people from one place to another. When people are harmed, it is incidental. Guns have no purpose other than to harm things; whether for good or innocent intentions (protection or game) or bad intentions. Not to mention, if you want to get technical, there is "car control:" requiring that people study, take a test, and earn a license before he or she is allowed to drive.
Your argument is simply invalid and quite frankly, insensitive to those involved in this accident.
You left out self defense there caitlin. It's also known as protecting one's family and self but you wouldn't know these things being a democrat and all.
Rusty: Let me quote myself here. "Guns have no purpose other than to harm things; whether for good or innocent intentions (protection or game)..."
I used the word "protection" to mean protecting one's loved ones and self; so essentially, self defense. I referred to both that and "game"–hunting or other types of sport that includes guns-as innocent uses.
1) This was an accident, not a willful decision on someone's part to cause havoc and pain. Unfortunately accidents occur with guns as well, often a child accidentally killing their sibling while playing with a gun. But accidents, as sad and unfortunate and preventable as they are, are not why we are currently having a gun debate.
2) Despite what the NRA told you, nobody in the gun debate is considering the outright ban of all weapons.
3) The auto industry is constantly coming out with new technology to make cars safer. Anti-lock brakes, reverse cameras, radar sensors, etc. Please enlighten us with how the gun industry has made guns safer. In fact, the gun industry's new technology makes guns more lethal – such as bulletproof vest piercing ammunition.
4) You have to be licensed to drive a car.
So, in conclusion, you're spot on... the gun industry should be made more accountable like the car industry already is.
Should also ban households of registered democrats to one kid per family. You people are doing more damage to kids and their futures than any lunatic shooter or driver could ever do.... let the hate replies fly...
When you use weather related traffic accidents to try and score points for your gun control debate, you've already lost the debate.
No, we just need more driver education and certification. Ban bad drivers. Get them off the road so they do not kill the good ones.
Maybe if some of the folks on here cared a bit more about humanity instead of their self serving possessions. It's really sad that someone has to bring the subject of guns into this tragedy. You should be ashamed of yourselves. It could be your spouse, parent, or children lost today.
ban jet streams and drain all the lakes, this will reduce snow and winter pile ups
What are you talking about??? The subject was a traffic accident.
Less snow and ice will keep texans from killing themselves while performing on snowmobiles.
One word People: GLOBALWARMING!
People don't pay attention, people are stupid. Drive faster, the road is covered with ice. Get drunk, text and drive even faster. That guy in front of me is slow, I'll stick to his bumper like an Obama sticker. The biggest problem with idiots trying to kill themselves is they take innocent victims with them.
Sheesh! It was NOT caused by a drunk driver it was caused by nature. And its a tragic thing so you dont need to use it for your dumb gun agenda! As for the jerk with the comment about ppl living in Detroit, there are some very nice people living here!
Obviousy, you have never driven on the freeways in Michigan. I have no doubt this was caused by someone driving too fast for the conditions. Probably tailgating too.
She lives in Detroit, Michigan...obviously you don't know squat.
Wow, listen to you all.
Pretty sad, can not believe these people.
Another pile up just occurred on US-23. Both north and south bound lanes are closed.
Is this because the government is altering weather patterns?
God Bless the families. 3 Children and 1 Adult confirmed dead. Happened 10 minutes away from my house and my girlfriend drove past it on the opposite side of the freeway before it got shut down. It was "white out conditions". Everyone just needs to be careful.
Ban cars ... anyone say this yet? Oh I am SO trendy!
This was a terrible accident and my heart goes out to the families of the deceased and I hope that the many who were injured make a speedy recovery.
As a new resident of Michigan, I am horrified, however, with the way that people in this state drive distracted. They talk on their hand held cell phones while ignoring safe speeds and as a result excessively tailgate. I don't know how many times on snowy roads, I have had someone tailgating me trying to make me go faster than the speed limit and safe driving would allow.
We need to slow down fellow Michigan drivers and pay attention to the road. I sure hope that my first instinct on this tragedy is incorrect and that all drivers had slowed down because of the storm and icy conditions. It only takes one person to cause this type of catastrophe on icy roads.
Do people still use snow tires or is that too Republican for people and their bad driving?
We have had All Weather tires since the 1989s. No one in metro Detroit uses snow tires unless they drive a snow plow.
Snow tires are actually illegal in Michigan. All we can use is all weather tires.
How is it that a story about a snow driven pile up becomes a dissertation on gun control? It amuses me no end what people do to advance their agenda, both pro and con, liberal or conservative. It's a car wreck! that's what it is.
