The U.S. Postal Service will end Saturday home delivery of letters and other first-class mail, but will still deliver packages, starting in August.

Opinion: Save the Postal Service from collapse
Goodbye, Postal Service?
New technology is a factor in this madness.
it really stinks now people wont get saturday mail
I do not have a problem with cutting Saturday delivery. I would go even further; cut delivery to three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I could live with your 3 times a week comment, but the question would be, "will our bill collectors understand" and give us some slack?
I absolutely agree with that schedule. As far as bill collectors, you should know when your bills are due and do the responsible thing and make sure you send it on time or use the free online payment services. There's no excuse, not even the post office when you can use a computer at any library.
I do agree !!!
Or better yet. Deliver half of the routes M, W, F and the other half T, TH, SA. It would employ less people, but keep them full- time because you know we will pay benefits either way.
Um, janelle, putting your bills in the mail ahead of time is no guarantee that the bill recipients will credit your account in time; I see a lot of mishandling of late fees being applied with your scenario.
Many, MANY people do not know how to use the internet, and many do not trust the net to pay their bills. That isn't an answer, either.
One if the biggest ways to keep the post office afloat would be to rescind the stupid law making them prepay retirement/health benefits for FUTURE employees; only the USPS has to do that, thanks to Congress.
Maybe the USPS should have cut sponsorship to Lance Armstrong sooner? What was that about anyway?
Goodbye, snail mail.
Great - No Sat. Delivery -– who needs it? No one !!!!
Want to make a real dent ? Raise 1st Class to $1.00 for ALL MAIL including BULK MAIL !! Then shut down all Post Offices that don't make a profit, cut their Caddalic retirement program in half & eliminate retirement in 29 yrs..
Then & only then will you have a decent department '!!!!!!!!!!!
The USPS biggest problem is that they are required, by a mandate by Congress, to prepay retirement/health benefits on FUTURE employees.
Bet your company doesn't do that.
Any reason that a person who works for the post-office for 40 years shouldn't expect to retire without having to get a job to supplement their retirement?
I have a better solution, privatize the post office and get the government out of it and it could become profitable.
So now USPS will have employees driving all the same routes every Saturday but just delivering packages, and then they will have to pay employees overtime on Monday in order to get all of Saturdays mail delivered??? Why not just deliver the mail with the packages? None of this makes any sense, including how they can make this decision without congressional approval.
Ok thats fine.No more saturday mail.Thats fine. How soon will it be until Stamps once again goes up?The UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE as its called should not be a for profit organization.I live in a town of alittle over 1000 people. We have a 3 person post office. This building is slightly larger than a porta potty.long lunch breaks everyday.figure 3 people, the place shouldnt close for lunch right?.Well you would be wrong. But on top of that. These folks dont dress in the typical USPS garb either. But heres the kicker, they average around 44-75 thousand dollars a year. With raises that come every year.Drive some really nice cars. Now Saturday will be eliminated. But i bet their pay wont go down. And lets bet stamps will go up really soon.SMH
Postal workers need to suck it up. They road the gravy train for decades earning wages that would make a UAW member blush. You simply can't sustain anything while paying three times the average wage for standard to substandard performance and stay competitive. We are not talking about rocket science or skilled labor here, just sorting mail and delivering it. My paper boy is more reliable to getting a paper to the box right under my mail box for a lot less wages.
