Iran's Qaher-313 fighter plane

Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

Look at the lower panel in front of the front strut. Its flat. Some would say so what, however it this is a F-22 copy the aircraft will fly nose up at approximpaetly a 10 degree angle. that flat portion would act as a snow plow and light up the radar. Stealth is comprised of a number of items, low angle of radar deflection and absorbing material or electric absobsion. This seems to have little of any. I see no evidence of electronic absobsion nor absobsion material.

Sort of them having found a new material, something is amiss. Ill never doubt something without seeing it perform, but ........

No. It's fiberglass. The wings wouldn't even handle the stress of take-off.

Leave it to the Iranians to build the ultimate stealth fighter.

    1. Guaranteed to never get picked upon enemy radar.
    2. Guaranteed to never get shot down
    3. Guaranteed to safely return the pilot back to his wife and children.
    4. Guaranteed to come in under budget

@Dante Why do you think he is joking. He is 100% correct. If this place can't even get off the ground, then all 4 points above are feasible lol.

I think what he's saying is it will meet all those goals because it will never fly and never be produced.

It's very funny to me that they put all the signage on the plane in English. Why would you ever label everything in English that would be used in a country that doesn't speak English? Clearly this was only a marketing ploy/scare tactic.

Looks like a mock-up. Probably made of plywood. Many aircraft start out like this. So who is this propaganda aimed at, the west? Nah, they"re just trying to fool their own.
