Iran's Qaher-313 fighter plane

Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

Don't be giving them so much free engineering advice. Let them boast, fly and turn into toast!

The only ammunition that this plane can carry is the pilot's shoes.

This is a fake. The canopy seam looks like duct tape. How is this plane serviced? There are no access panels. For a jet the skin looks like clumsily glued together pieces of card board. Maybe it is made of paper mache. One big Iranian pinata.

It is almost insulting that they would expect anyone to believe this is real.

They must have put this together from all of that technology they stole from the U.S. drone.....unfortunately I do not think the drone was made out of shiny fiberglass.

Pretty sure that Iran would not be concerned about giving away their technology.

Haha ... Finaly after 22 years! Not sure if this can fly!! Called project "OJ" top secret project hidden deep under the ground inside Mehrabad international airport in Tehran, i were helping with engineering, crazy guys using local plumber for cooling system the same kind using for building nuclear facility in Parchin (near capital) about the same timing 22 years ago.. gonna look changed more to remote control toys (Made in China). Hey.. ask 747 ex-pilot called General Emami for buying insurance before flying this toy!!

This plane is too small to carry any bombs or significant weapons. I also have my doubts that it even fly's.

It might be a half-sized model but obviously wouldn't hold a standard engine. Perhaps Iran is planning a movie "Hot Shots Part Trois' and they need some comedic planes. On the serious side. Iranian AF does not insist on installing or maintaining ejection systems as the outcome is in God's hands.

I hadn't realized that the Cargo Cults had also developed in Iran.

How much is the kit for this model airplane? It looks like it'd be alot of fun to put together with my son.

The west need not worry First of all, it is not designed to carry anything other than the pilot, much less any weapons. The clear almost domed canopy is for sightseeing! It is for sightseeing above or on the waters. It is a modified flying boat!.

Does anyone remembers an episode from The Simpsons where Homer designed a car? They look the same!
