Iran's Qaher-313 fighter plane

Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

This is simply the regime's latest propaganda tergated for internal consumption. Don't waste your time assessing the capabilities of it. Regime has made similar claims of making advanced planes in the past. They have shown the supposedly prototypes. But no-one has ever seen one of these flying.

Why the silly propaganda story? There is no story here other than trying to create the impression that Iranians are pretnding to have weapons they don't have. So does that mean that their missles don't actually work? That they don't have a nuclear program? I don't get the point here other than riling up the 20 something white male population to chuckle at an "enemy."

Im 23(which is in the range you mentioned), I live in Canada and I enjoyed the story. It's ridiculous propaganda to show a ridiculous plane with stupid intentions. Why wouldn't we enjoy and read the whole article mocking these wannabe badasses?

Hey now....I played with the original GI Joe figures and they were pretty cool. I bet this plane from Iran flies every bit as well as one made by GI Joe or Lego or Tonka. As a matter of fact, if LEGO made one of these, I'd be first in line.

Tomorrow's headline," American military and top defense contractors call for shift of additional 100 billion from social programs to weapons research to counter Iranian air threat."

It does look fake, but remember the photos we are looking at were hand picked to highlight this theory. Remember that these are not a dumb people. The Persians invented algebra and graduate a ton of doctors and engineers.

It is clearly not a real aircraft, It is possibly a full size model of a design, but I highly doubt a plastic airplane is going to fly and carry weight. Even IF it were real it wouldn't be able to maneuver without breaking apart, but my guess is it is just another embarrassing atempt by the Iranian propaganda machine. Could you imagine having to pretend like this was a real jet and sit in it like the pilot, knowing all along it is all fake.

If this is how Iran does aviation, I wouldn't be all that concerned about their nuclear program other than it ending up like Chernobyl.

Imagine strapping jet engines to your sailboat. That's about how well this will perform as a combat aircraft if it indeed is made of fiberglass. Also, could it be that they made it small scale just so that Ahmadinejad wouldn't look puny standing by it in the photographs? Too funny.

I didn't think the point of a stealth jet was to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. These comments on how it looks "looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy" and how it has to be a "joke" are very childish and completely beside the point.
