Iran's Qaher-313 fighter plane

Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

The wires sticking out the back of the 1969 dodge dart dash board go to a really loud fart button.

well it does look like a model, but dont underestimate such a cheap looking plane at the price of 1 F22 or F35 they can probably build 30-50 of those, and they are probably a hell of a lot easier to fly, seems to me more like a hey lets send 10,000 of these planes in at once well then in that case who would have the upper hand?

Yeah...they have the budget for that. Regardless, the standoff distance of an f22 or 35 would be far beyond something like this...if it actually did work. Do you really think that nose could house anything that would see beyond 1km? The kill ratio would be pretty much infinity to one against this thing. My stick is longer than yours...I can hit you and you can't hit me.

You're assuming that this thing can actually fly.. or even move under its own power. It doesn't look like more than a heap of poorly molded plastic.

If this is the best they can do, the world can breath a sigh of relief. Just look at the clarity of the canopy alone.
    I wouldn't fly it.

Did anyone else notice that all of the writing on the plane is in English?

Was anyone else surprised by this dismal attempt at an aircraft from Iran? Do you all remember the article about their "naval warship" , it was a freaking steam boat.

There are no canopy locking about 150 kts, even with overcenter locks on the actuator, the canopy would most likely blow open and rip off. The Driver is setting so high in the seat he would be blasted by the airstream,,,might be a real jet but I wouldn't fly it....

This particular canopy appears to lock due to suction. The pilot must first lick the rubber strip before closing the canopy.
