Iran's Qaher-313 fighter plane

Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

I suppose it is solar powered too! What a joke. Obama probably wants to buy 500 of them!

As a kid who grew up with GI Joe, I have to say if anything it looks like The Night Raven... which was actually a Cobra fighter. This is somewhat ironic seeing as Cobra was an international terrorist organization.

I am surprised to see people talking about how "it's real and watch the videos." Remember that video of the eagle and the baby? Geez

I don't understand why they are wasting their money on building military hardware, the way BHO is running this country, soon they can just ride their camels in and take over. Or perhaps they can buy us from China in a couple more years. I suppose it is good to see someone spending money on defense equipment instead of cutting budgets like the good old USof A.

  5. Hope the toy can do a 180

my guess is that the wings will rip off when the approaching US F 16s cause the iranian pilot to do a 180 and high tail it out of there

It's not the aircraft who's make the difference but the pilot.. and the iranian pilots are not good pilots to say the least

This fighter plane can fly 2 feet above ground. That's why there is no ejection seat.

I guess it could be a toy, but I have got to believe that the US, Russia and other high tech aviation countries are not the
only ones that can build these fighting machines. Is not Russia pro Iran?

Certainly a fake. Notice the canopy isn't closed while the pilot is in the seat. Then look at the relative positions of the headrest and the canopy when closed. The canopy would smash the pilot in the head!

I like that they made all the placards on the "plane" in English. F-313, Danger, etc. 10:1 the pitot cover has "Remove before flight" in English. Funny stuff.
