Iran's Qaher-313 fighter plane

Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

In WWII our pilots painted their fighters with likenesses of their wives and girlfriends. It doesn't have the same effect when all you can see is a burka.

A sonic boom is all that is needed to rattle this contraption into pieces. Save on ordnance.

if it aint made by white it aint right. plain and simple..... but please remember that an a-bomb is an a-bomb whether made with 1950 tech or 2013 tech. destruction may differ in size but after effects are lasting. keep that in mind those with a superiority complex.

It's like the Iranians got their hands on a badly deteriorated copy of Clint Eastwood's "Firefox" and attempted to create the same plane....and failed.

if it works its great, if its an expensive toy than sucks to be Iran. if the West, Israel, and the USA thinks this warplane is a joke, how so, why do you care, leave Iran alone, who gives a dam about Iran's nuclear threat against Israel when its clear they (Israel) hate Muslims (Palestinians and those who Muslims) as much as Nazis hated their (Jewish) ancestors. I've forgiven Arab Muslims and all Muslim but those who commit (heretical) act of violence in the name of Islam or God (aka Islamic Terrorist). leave Iran alone, at least they can make their own adequate jet-fighter without buying outdated Russian, European, or American warplanes.

This is extremely poor reporting. CNN, which is supposed to bring us news and analysis, regurgitates comments from bloggers who know as little about aviation as they do about Iran. Is it supposed to be a flight-ready aircraft, or is it indeed a mock-up of a future design? We don't know, CNN does not know, and the bloggers certainly don't know. So why all the noise?

  10. blah blah blah

there is nothing more priceless than jealousy and the sound of bunch of mentally 12 yr olds bad-mouthing their rival... Which one of you have designed a real fighter jet? 0 ... so what makes you think you are qualified to comment on this aircraft design??! how about we get a reputable fighter designer to throw in their 2 cents, which actually matters. And no playing call of duty and reading military threads don't make you an expert ! 😉

The bottom half looks like it was removed from a canoe and the "guidance system" in front of the " fighter pilot " looks like a 486 computer.

I was really hoping that CNN would get reputable aircraft designers and real engineers to tell us about this bird and its potential capabilities...I mean really now, Bloggers ?! This is an insult to Americans. no wonder people outside of usa don't think of us very highly anymore. it is just sad :/

And it will crash and burn just like my GI Joe airplane. The downward pointing wing tips will show up like a corner reflector to a radar. They totally built it wrong.
