Wrestling may be cut from Olympic Games

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee has recommended dropping wrestling as a sport from the Summer Games, it announced Tuesday.

"Wrestling will now join the seven shortlisted sports - baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding and wushu - vying for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic program as an additional sport," the IOC said in a statement.

At a meeting in Russia in May, representatives from those eight sports will make presentations for inclusion in the 2020 Games. The Executive Board will recommend one for inclusion.

Wrestling is the oldest sport, you can not take that away from the Olympics. Tradition is the backbone of the Olympics!

The gayest sport is also the oldest traditional sport. Got it.

Badminton and Ping Pong and synchronized swimming are Olympic events but wrestling isn't?! Those three have long made the Olympics look ridiculous.

It is ludicrous to remove wrestling fron the Olympics.
Remove the new fluff sports. Keep what is traditional, or drop the reference to ancient Greece.

Ridiculous that something like wrestling would be cut, yet speed-walking and equestrian events would remain.

how can they remove wrestling??? it is a awesome sport of strength and talent.. my son has been doing it for years.. they have many events that do not even seem like sports in the olympics.. i would think they would make a better decision to remove another sport and not wrestling
