80K civilian defense workers face furloughs

Nearly 800,000 civilian workers would be forced to take one day of leave per week without pay if automatic spending cuts go into effect as scheduled, the Defense Department told Congress on Wednesday morning.

The furloughs would start in the last week of April and last for 22 weeks, according to the Pentagon plan. It's unclear what would happen after the 22 weeks.

The Pentagon's plan is in response to the looming mandatory, across-the-board federal budget cuts - known as sequestration - that are due to start March 1. The cuts, mandated by a 2011 agreement to raise the federal debt ceiling, will take effect unless lawmakers come up with another deficit reduction plan.

Sequestration is Obama's – he created it, he owns it now he has to live with it and stop blaming others for his incredibly inept management of the US economy, and the Presidency overall.

You say Obama 'created it' well, it wouldn't even be an issue if most people in congress didn't 'vote for it'. DUH. 😉 Playing the blame game is the cheap way out – it accomplishes nothing.

This is owned by the federal government. It has everyone's fingerprints on it.

      Including the Pontius Pilate House.

Brian, it is not about who created it...its about living up to your word. Spending has to stop....if we are to believe our leaders, because we have not the funds to support it...simple math. It needs to start someplace, and yes it will suck for many, and this is as good a place as any.

As a country, we are at our best in the role of underdog, the Revolution, the Civil War, Pearl Harbor, Sandy, Katrina, and the list goes on...yes, this will be painful but maybe it will be the catalyst to revive the greatness that made us one of the great success stories in human history.

Unless you don't believe our story is a great one....in that case...leave and find a country that you like better...

What does your explanation have to do with my reply? Obviously you don't comprehend what I said. I said "You say Obama 'created it' well, it wouldn't even be an issue if most people in congress didn't 'vote for it'. DUH. Playing the blame game is the cheap way out – it accomplishes nothing."
Sequestration was an idea put forth by Obama to force government to solve our budget problems – And it was VOTED for by Congress to be made into law. So what has your reply got to do with that statement? Nothing. The problem remains the same – the debt is still there, the need to resolve it is still there – I argue nothing against that but like most Americans, you are too stupid to comprehend English – taking any comment posted to be an attack on the truth. Go back to Fox News – they would love you there.

And you anger, resentment and personal attacks are right in line with the the source of the problem. Thanks for validating the argument of the right.

You seem to overlook that those 800,000 are in your community, your neighborhood and maybe even your family. They will no longer have the resources to buy things which will lead to lower demand for products. Lower demand for products mean more layoffs in the private sector. Less money to be spent on products so more businesses go under. You also need to take into account the money that the states will be spending on unemployment and state subsidized healthcare. This will end up being a very expensive way to save money.

LMAO... your post speaks volumes about how uninformed you are. All of the government cuts will impact the average American because the money from those employees flow into businesses and communities around the country.

Balancing the checkbook is the 1st step. Paying the Trillions in bills is next. How to? Cut Cut Cut! Must dig hole deeper to eventually get out. It must start now and it will continue for years to come! Each day that goes by borrowing is another day added to the future generation of paying.

If they can cut 800,000 and still get their jobs done must be a lot of dead weight in Washington.

How can they not cut when there is no money? As for the jobs getting done... there are a lot of things that won't get done.

I'm not an expert, but I think that the Democrats actually came up with the sequester idea so as to get concessions from the Republicans in 2011.

Contractors are making a fing killing from these wars. Idiots from KBR/Haliburton were paid 150+ to repair generators that stayed down more than up, install radio/commo systems that ended up needing to be reinstalled by service members, heating up food in chow hall, you name it and it was always half a$$ work. Made a lot of people some money and a few very very rich.
