Source: Bomb suspect says brother drove plot

The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings has told investigators that his older brother - not any international terrorist group - masterminded the deadly attack, a U.S. government source said.

Preliminary interviews with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev indicate the two brothers fit the classification of self-radicalized jihadists, the source said Monday.

Tsarnaev has conveyed to investigators that Tamerlan's motivation was that of jihadist thought and the idea that Islam is under attack and jihadists need to fight back, the source said.

The government source cautioned that the interviews were preliminary, and that Tsarnaev's account needs to be checked out and followed up on by investigators.

    @chrissy. Good morning.
    For some reason the cause of his death is not being made public.

    As Paul Escobar writes in Asia Times, in some quarters questions whether Tamarlan was a FBI informant or a double agent are being raised.

      Well, of course the conspiracy theories will arise. The nature of this crime almost demands it.

    I have been watching Chris Cuomo's interview of Tom, CNN's FBI expert regarding what further could have been done by the FBI after the older bomber suspect came back from Russia. According to Tom, the "file was closed" and there wasn't more they could have done. But the FBI could have monitored the internet with a web crawler to see if he posted anything that could have allerted the FBI that there were issues. His postings on his facebook regarding the jihad when he returned from Russia would have been discovered if the FBI was monitoring him. Perhaps moving forward, the FBI and Homeland Security need to work together-someone on a watch should not be closed. Also when he left the country and came back in–why wasn't he interrogated like is done in Israel. Unfortunately, someone dropped the ball and how can we prevent this from happening again in the future.

    lol @chrissy.
    As @banasy says we'll see more of this stuff. However FBI had been in contact with him & he was kept under surveillance for some time. Questions are there.

    One of my favorite commercials is a Geico commercial. R. Lee Irming (Gunny ) plays the role of a psychiatrist. His patient, while laying on the couch says " I don't like the color yellow, it makes me sad.". R. Lee Irming throws a box of tissue at him and says "You want a tisue? You jackwad, are you in namby pamby land?". The commercial makes me imagine Bush and Colin Powell throwing a box of tissue at Obama and Hillary Clinton.

    PASS THE BUCK! Still do not know all the facts yet. Tired of hearing about he is "a good young man, with no problems, intelligent, set up, etc." . What did the older brother, terrorist, do to him? Tourtured, brainwashed? IF this 19yr old, terrorist, was so smart and good, it actually looks llke he was very weak minded! This whole family, relatives, are messed up! The uncle started out OK but then wants US to be sorry! Outrageous!! Father: It was a set up and they were used? Mother: They were good and couldn't have done this, WE are wrong! Wife: Didn't know anything until she saw husband on TV? Give me a break!!

    MORE: Article saying "mother" is wanted in U.S.A. for a shoplifting charge, and did not show up for court, possibility of being arrested if she returns. And just HOW can the mother & father say they know their kids when they LEFT them here and returned to their country?

    I agree with you in some sense. I believe that many countries outside the US do tend to believe in several conspiracy theories, the majority of which have sprung up after 911. Most of their theories involve our government having something to do with it. There is also some famous idiot, forget his name, well known in other countries who has a TV program and has written many books on the conspiracy theories subject. So, many people outside of the US do believe this garbage for real.
