The United States is pleased that Syrian opposition factions have united, the State Department says.
"The United States congratulates the representatives of the Syrian people on the formation of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces," a statement from State Department spokesman Mark Toner says. "We look forward to supporting the National Coalition as it charts a course toward the end of (President) Assad’s bloody rule and the start of the peaceful, just, democratic future that all the people of Syria deserve."
Syrian opposition factions formally agreed Sunday to unite as the National Coalition Forces of the Syrian Revolution, a spokesman for the Syrian National Council told CNN.
