Judge: State will help pay Casey Anthony's defense

The state of Florida must fund some of Casey Anthony's defense in her first-degree murder trial for the death of daughter Caylee, a judge ruled Friday.

"All costs submitted shall be in compliance with the Ninth Judicial Circuit's caps and rates and are subject to further review," Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland said in a order issued Friday.

Anthony's defense team told the court Thursday that she was broke and could not bear expenses associated with her defense. In Friday's order, Strickland granted Anthony's request to be declared indigent, which means the state will pay expenses related to her defense on a discretionary basis except for attorney's fees.

Absurd...they should stipulate that when they make the movie of this horrendous death of an innocent child, and they will. She pays the state back in full and she nor her parents benefit from the death of Caylee Marie. May she rest in peace.

Those letters she wrote to her fellow inmate must be pretty damning.

The state should pay the whole cost of the trial and give her at the least equal the value of her proscution.

"Why" on earth should the tax pay have to help defind her? This is not one of thoughs times when a child is killed bye accident, a stranger, or a mother with a mental illness. This was a mother who just didnt want to be botherd with a child. Let her defind herself and use the money on something good or someone who really needs it!

This young woman gets nothing but 'breaks' due to one law or technicality, or another. We have to accept this, as she is innocent, until proven guilty. But as in the "OJ" trial, there appears to be some pretty damning evidence indicating she is guilty, wether that evidence is 'circumstantial' or not.
But thats how justice works. So we will pay if we must. We hope fervently that Casey didnt kill her own child. We only have a chance at proving or disproving this, by providing her good legal counsel, as to not do so, she may well be guilty, but off the hook if we fail to provide adequate legal representation.
The child's life is worth that and more. It's not about her mother. She could be the most horrible parent or person in existence, but that doesnt mean she killed her child. It also doesnt mean that she didnt. We need the truth, not a mistrial based on technicality.
If that means the people pay, so be it. Justice may be costly, but its also sacred.Get on with it.
Its not about money, or Casey. Its about exacting justice for the child. You bet that's expensive. As well as the right thing to do.

The child is the most important part and she should have her justice. she didnt ask to lose her life she just wanted to grow up just like all kids do. and yes" justice is costly, but this has been going on for more then 2 years. It its the lawyers way of trying to get it so that its not fresh in our minds. They have had what they need to go to trial a lond time ago. It not about the child to them anymore, its the money and thats the problem.

This isn't absurd at all. The state wants to try her for murder, as well they should. But, she has to be able to defend herself. That is how this country works when it comes to these things. Its never fun to have to support a person like this, and its even worse to have to do it for their defense, but its just the way things have to work. I also don't feel she should have to pay it back. They aren't paying for her private defense attorneys, just the stuff they'd have to pay for anyway if she had a public defender, only in that case we'd also be paying the paycheck for the public defender. At least we aren't paying for her lawyers. This has ALWAYS been something possible in our justice system. If one doesn't like it, they can attempt to get that changed.

I want her to have a good defense, because I don't want to hear her getting convicted and then being able to appeal and win an appeal and then get acquitted later because her first trial was done in a shoddy way due to either inept defense attorneys or to inability to pay for essential defense expenses as they've listed that they need the state's assistance to pay for.

She should get a public defender for the tax payers money. No more and no less, period. I hope they get this over with soon and find her guilty and put her away. I cannot stand the sight of her ugly, sneering face.

i dont even live in florida but come on that is the dumbest thing ever. She can buy expensive bottles of water, get her hair done then why is it the state of florida should pay for her defense when she can buy herself make up and etc... I think it is bull and she should find a way herself to ge tthe money everybody has paid for everything for her she should of thought of it before she did what she did (and yes ithink she is guilty).

whoever the judge is that approved state money for casey anthony should be removed from the bench and if he or she wants to help this poor murdering girl ,pay the shister lawers out of there own pocket! The most the state should do is give her a public defender like everybody else who has no money to pay for a lawyer! why isn't this trial over by now, these so called
lawyers she has now are owed so much money because all the do is file 1 bogus motion after another. this whole thing makes me sick
    thanks for letting me vent
