Israeli soldier killed in apparent friendly fire incident

An Israeli soldier was shot and killed Monday in an apparent friendly fire incident, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The shooting occurred after an IDF tank team patrolling a border crossing from the Gaza Strip observed three suspects crossing into Israel, the IDF said in a statement

Another patrol group sent to the scene wasn't informed that the tank teamhad begun a foot pursuit of the suspects, the IDF said.

"The force mistakenly identified the tank team as the Palestinian suspects, and began firing at the team," the IDF said.

One soldier was killed. No one else was injured, the IDF said. The three people suspected of trying to cross into Israel were arrested and held for questioning, the IDF said. They were not armed. The shooting is under investigation, the IDF said.

Just goes to show you just how trigger-happy IDF forces are. Be it civilians in International waters, kids playing soccer, an American peace activist trying to stop yet another house form being bulldozed, or now IDF soldiers themselves, the rules of engagement are: shoot first, be cleared by an 'internal investigation' later. Condolences to the families of the murdered. Their pain is shared by thousands of other victims.

BuddhaBill u hit the nail on the head. So true, CNN and other media outlets never bring up the victims of IDF and the results of these bogus investigations and yet the Jewish state is always potrayed as a democracy surviving in the midst of sea of enemies.
