At least 9 people shot in D.C.

Nine people were wounded along a city block in southern Washington, D.C., Tuesday night after shooters opened fire on a crowd, police said.

Metro Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the shooting prompted a lengthy police chase that ended in the arrest of three people. Four officers were treated for minor injuries from an accident during the chase.

The victims who were shot near the 5000 block of South Capitol Street included six males and three females, and some were in very serious condition, Lanier said.

A tenth person was shot on nearby Galveston Street, but it wasn't clear whether the two shootings were related.

Lanier decline to give more details, saying it was too early in the investigation.

However, she told reporters that, "We've made a lot of progress to stop gang retaliation and violence and, in the end, if this ends up being some kind of gang retaliation then shame on all of us."

Wow. #1. I'm impressed to see that many folks do still possess critical reading skills, enough to notice that no motive for the crime has been stated. #2. I'm disheartened to see that this entire story is overshadowed by politics regardless. #3. Would like to cmmend at least one respondent for expressing concern for the people who were actually hurt, and would like to express my support and well wishes for those people as well.

I love people who point to the NRA, or the 2nd amendment debate. GUNS ARE OUTLAWED IN DC, PEOPLE. You're only helping show why suppressing our rights afforded by the Constitution is a terrible idea that will have no effect on violent crime.

#38 – David Nice try. read the quote from the guy who wrote.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms
is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

Gun show AK-47, not looking good for the no right winger theory, we will see. Gangs tend more to the TEC-9. It could be a foreign military fighter with the AK but gun show nut is much more likely.

I don't know which civilized western culture your talking about but you got it wrong buddy. For instance, The UK have no guns at all yet the violence level has risen and continues to rise because people cant protect them selves and the criminals know this. I really don't understand why citizens think if there's a gun ban the situation would get better which is not true. Criminals will always have weapons to kill you!

I'm glad we can still carry guns and we still have our militias. It keeps things on a level playing field. If you know your history the only reason we haven't been invaded by the Japanese during WWII is because much of America is packing.

"...We would find a rifle behind every blade of grass."

"The Constitution shall never be construed to authorize congress
to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable
citizens .... from keeping their own arms."

Here's a nice quote for you people who think your government is trying to help you these days.

"What good fortune for governments that the people do not think."

Nice jump of logic folks - here are the real facts. 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago, if you'd made guns illegal, and gangs will be the only people that do still have them. This union is VERY shaky now - the fact is that if you tried to make guns illegal now, you'd see the immediate disolution of the Union. I don't necessarily think that'd be a bad thing - so, please...go ahead. Liberal nutjobs.

so, when the government has all the guns, what will you pathetic idiots do? As your told I suppose... the more power you give the government, the more you enslave yourself at your own will... keep it up you brainless goons... you're falling right in step with where big brother would rather you be, willing to hand over your every last freedom in the name of "security."

I will happily take my citizenship elsewhere if you clowns actually win the battle of giving away the rest of our liberties to the ruling class... because at that moment we would be better off putting our eggs in a basket that is willing to be weaved to fit all our eggs into it... I'm sure there's a few out there that would gladly allow such a constructive endeavor!
