At least 9 people shot in D.C.

Nine people were wounded along a city block in southern Washington, D.C., Tuesday night after shooters opened fire on a crowd, police said.

Metro Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the shooting prompted a lengthy police chase that ended in the arrest of three people. Four officers were treated for minor injuries from an accident during the chase.

The victims who were shot near the 5000 block of South Capitol Street included six males and three females, and some were in very serious condition, Lanier said.

A tenth person was shot on nearby Galveston Street, but it wasn't clear whether the two shootings were related.

Lanier decline to give more details, saying it was too early in the investigation.

However, she told reporters that, "We've made a lot of progress to stop gang retaliation and violence and, in the end, if this ends up being some kind of gang retaliation then shame on all of us."

Criminals do not worry about permits.

    Wake up.

A permit will not stop someone from randomly entering your home and killing you and your family.

If they get past my Dobermans, i feel pity for them.

    They won't get past me.

My money says that not one of the gunmen had a valid license to kill. All those liberal anti-murder laws are clearly not working and should be abolished.

DC had some of the strictest gun laws in the nation and murders were down by almost 2/3 over the last 20 years. The Supreme Court Justices should have maybe thought more about the lives of the people in their own neighborhood before they decided to legislate from the bench (unless you think that street gangs with assault rifles and hand guns were what the founders meant by a well regulated militia).

Wanna see how little crime there is in a gun outlawed society? Go to Mexico. My wife, lived there 30 years and left because of all the crime. She is a big gun advocate.

We should all be aware that there WILL be people who will do these things for the sole purpose of creating mass hysteria. Even if they don't have a dog in the fight. Merely for the sake of creating chaos. I know you NRA folks won't like this, but there SHOULD be tougher gun regulations. If you own a gun, no matter if it is a rifle, shotgun, or handgun, it should be registered to you. If you use it lawfully, then the tougher regulation doesn't even effect you. If you are found to have a stolen gun, or posess a gun in the commision of a crime....automatic 30 years. No if and or buts. The fact is, responsible gun owners shoot targets and animals. Occasionally they are used in crimes of passion. Most shootings (by far) are gang related, drug related, or becuase some gangsta got dissed. And those guns are in most cases STOLEN!

Mexican news compare the attacks to cartel hits in Mexico. I really don't know if there is any connection but of course it is possible.

I am left of center, live in the DC area, and dont' believe any aspect of this incident has anything to do with the headlines or right wing violence (which also is a fact). More likely it is a "turf" issue and gang related.

For all your guys blaming this slack gun control laws... Washington DC has the strictest gun control laws in the United States. Try to wrap your thick skulls around this: if you were about to murder somebody, would you really care that using a gun to do it is illegal?

Hmmm. Criminals will have guns, no matter the law. Law-abiding citizens shouldn't also have guns? Now that makes a lot of sense.

Why do you Americans insist on killing each other? Right to bare arms. When you give someone a rope they know the rest. Neanderthals.

You idiots do realize that DC has one of the largest gang problems in the country. You idiots need to tone down the right wing nutjob rhetoric. And anybody who believes the second amendment (or ANY part of the Constitution) is outdated should leave the country immediately. I have no time for them.

From what I gather from reading here, sounds like thugs shooting indiscriminately. Left or right wingers? Please. These types have no affiliation, just their banger friends.
