At least 9 people shot in D.C.

Nine people were wounded along a city block in southern Washington, D.C., Tuesday night after shooters opened fire on a crowd, police said.

Metro Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the shooting prompted a lengthy police chase that ended in the arrest of three people. Four officers were treated for minor injuries from an accident during the chase.

The victims who were shot near the 5000 block of South Capitol Street included six males and three females, and some were in very serious condition, Lanier said.

A tenth person was shot on nearby Galveston Street, but it wasn't clear whether the two shootings were related.

Lanier decline to give more details, saying it was too early in the investigation.

However, she told reporters that, "We've made a lot of progress to stop gang retaliation and violence and, in the end, if this ends up being some kind of gang retaliation then shame on all of us."

LOL Sounds like jumping to conclusions about who has evil intent is no longer just a Republican game. As much as I would like to see this tied to groups like the Stones' "church" or the tea-party types, I will wait for some facts before yelling about who weapons, large or small, and starting a war of words or any other kind.

D.C. has the strictest gun control laws in the nation, yet this is where this story happened. England has more gun related attacks per capita than the U.S., yet guns are completely banned. Draw your own conclusions.

Here's the deal John... people are criticizing your initial comments... yet people are watching this story with bated breath and making these comments because they're all wondering the same thing; that's why they're reading this story. And many of these same people who are criticizing you want to see angry Republicans voice and act out on their anger with the Dems and Obama... because it give voice to what their feeling too.

Ignore John, he's probably basking in all the attention right now. Think about the real issues we're dealing with here, and the damage caused to human life.

This is exactly why I am no longer a Democrat, too many idi0ts. I may agree with the majority of the Democratic views, but you people are just getting crazy. I'm voting against the Dem's next election for sure now.

You can claim the Repub's are the haters and instigators, but look at the 1st post here, hate from a Dem trying to get a rise out of the Repub's. You wonder why we are at each others throats.

I look forward to moving out of this country in the next 5yrs before it's too late.

A shooting in D.C. is not newsworthy, unless it happens to white commuters during rush hour. Shall we stop criminalizing the intent of those whose politics differ from our own and focus on the REAL need in this country: education.

If our system of education were not failing abysmally compared to a handful of whiners who think my tax money needs to give them health benefits, maybe the poor in Southeast D.C. could be learning their way out of crushing poverty and gang violence and a welfare system that enslaves them more certainly than the South did.

Times are hard and economic conditions are worse. No matter right or left wing, the point of the matter is that violence occurs whether with guns, knives, sticks or stones. when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Being almost murdered by a 272 pound amateur body builder boxer, whom the Secret Service believed to have murdered many, I would hate to have to try to subdue him with a rock. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. It is a shame violence exists anyway.

Although I agree with Mark and Kurt about John's non-sequitorial comment, you HAVE to give it to John for saying what we are ALL thinking and concerned about in the non-angry, non-ultra-right part of America. I feel there is a spirit of these times which goes something like this for me... "What is the matter with all these hyper-emotional right-wingers? Are they not-so-closet racists/bigots? Why can't they use their minds, rather than their emotions (and fears) to interface with their world and culture? Why can they not see the good and hard work some Democrats and definitely OUR PRESIDENT are trying to do for this country and The People, in defending them from big business interests?"

I'm going to take a guess and say that this might not have been politically motivated at all.
    It was probably gang violence.

Everyone needs to stop giving John a hard time. He's just saying what we're all thinking. Current lack of details notwithstanding, I'd bet any of you doubters $100 that this is eventually traced back to some disgruntled tea-party member(s).

What about the rancher murdered by illegal aliens? I"ll bet the shooters have prior arrests and have served in prison, or are gang (either local or illega) members..... Although, it could be some of those leftist democRATS. Or, even just regular democRATS. Whoever did it, I'll bet they voted for oBAMA, probably more than once.

    Scott Trent,

"Who was the left wing nut arrested for making death threats against Republican Eric Cantor? And... how many arrests of right wing people for making supposed threats? NONE!"

Uh, Norman LeBoon, the "left wing nut" also made videos threatening Obama, Biden, Pelosi and Reid. Yeah, some left wing nut.
