U.S. warship captures suspected pirate mother ship

The USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel and then captured it.

A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement.

The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby.

What morons would shoot at a Navy ship that big...they should have sunk both ships and left the pirates to the sharks.

    What to go US Navy!!

I'm sure the first words out of the pirates mouths after they realized who they were messing with was, "oh crap." (LOL)

What kind of idiots would attack a US Navy warship with a crappy little skiff boat? Maybe they were eager to collect their 72 virgins.

I can't believe that a pirate skiff would fire on a US warship. You don't have to be a MENSA candidate to realize that this is probably going to end badly. Bet those seamen were like "Holy crap, we get to do something!!!" Some village in Somalia is missing it's idiot.

Well, the story is unclear if the skiff was sunk. We probably fired over their heads so we didnt hurt any poor pirates. These guys are not too afraid of the US Navy if they tried to capture the Nicholas.

Ah... finally some positive news in the fight against piracy.
BTW did the night cause the pirates not to know that the ship they were attacking was an armed vessel?

Very good move by Navy , We should just destroy these pirates .

But the real issue if poverty in Ethopia and other countries in that region . They do not get on
to do this pirate stuff with fun in mind

Still its a negative act and should be punished

Sink 'em all, but skip the rescues afterwards. Sharks gotta eat too, even though there isn't much meat on those skinnies!

I usually try to see both sides of any story. But, in the cases of piracy in the Indian Ocean and off the African coast, I have no sympathy for any of these pirates terrorizing commercial, leisure, and military ships.

It's about time. The only thing these pirates will understand is going for an unplanned swim in the Indian Ocean. Any pirates that are sufficiently stupid to attack a warship deserve whatever befalls them.
