U.S. warship captures suspected pirate mother ship

The USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel and then captured it.

A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement.

The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby.

I agree. Just killing and sinking all ships will save money in the long haul. I dont understand taking prisoners on the "high seas". Its open season out there and anything goes. Thats the pirate mentality and it should be our war ships captains mentality as well.

I think people need to realize that this wasn't an incident of the pirates actually thinking they should attack a warship. It was at night, and if you have ever been on the ocean at night, it is really difficult to tell what a ship actually is, especially if you don't have that much knowledge on the shapes of different craft. I'm sure what happened is that the pirates saw a big dark ship and thinking it was commercial decided to try to seize it.

You have to wonder at what point did these guys decide that firing on a US warship was a good idea?
