The USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel and then captured it.
A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa.
The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement.
The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby.
Great job USN!!
Well done, crew of the USS Nicholas!
It is also refreshing to see that we have a Commander-In-Chief who uses the Navy to protect more than just oil interests like that clown George Bush.
What were they thinking!!??
Well, it's about time these ships that are under attack retaliate and fight back. It is ridiculous that in international waters or any other place in the ocean ships are taken captive for ransom. Obviously these pirates don't know what an honest days work is so maybe they should just stay in prison forever so normal people can live their lives in peace. Good job US Navy.
nice! i hope they chop off their dicks!
This is for April fools, right?
Glad to see that we aren't allowing that scum to capture our ships. Fighting back should have been started after the first piracy. Why ship captains allowed boardings and holding crews for ransom is beyond me.
How absolutely stupid of these idiots to even consider attacking a US Warship. They must have brains the size of a pea (all of them combined) to pull off such a thing. Throw'em to the sharks
Momar: "...Hey, Abdul, let's attack that ship and hold it for ransom?'
Abdul: "I don't know. What's that pointy thing on the Bow?"
Momar: "Ah, nothing to worry about, just a pipe coming out of the outhouse."
Abdul: "Why is it turning and pointing at us?"
Abdul: "I have a bad feeling about this, all the people are dressed the same."
Momar: "You Camel Hump, I'll just pop a few rounds at em and we will be in the money!"
GOOD, bout time. Clearly these crooks aren't very smart. GOOD job USA.
why capture it?they should sink it and the crew and then we won't have to worry about pirating anymore or at least those on that ship!seriously by the time they get to trial the ship will have been released and more pirates will take their place. and why must we wait for them in international waters, we know where they are, go get them and sink them. I think that would make a great naval excersise and maybe the rest of the world should send their navies in with us and get the job done quicker. I don't care about the excuses for them doing it either. stop worrying about their rights and blast them out of the water now!
Now that we caught them, I guess we have to bring them back to the US and try them in a civilian court.
Hmmmmmmmm.... sounds like the pirates flunked "Target Identification" class !!! Hee Hee
Wow! Seriously? Maybe the thought it was an April Fools day joke, or maybe Somali health care only provides free lobotomies.
@All the folks who are complaining why this didn't happen sooner: the ocean is a BIG place. It's very difficult for the navy to hunt these little ships down, and there are more commerical ships than military ships to go around, so the navy can't just guard the commercial ships either.
Way to go Navy!
Show them who rules the waters!
