U.S. warship captures suspected pirate mother ship

The USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel and then captured it.

A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement.

The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby.

I hope this is not an April Fool thing. Can the pirates really be that stooooopid? Attack a modern US warship with small arms ... from a big row boat ... and a rusty fishing boat ... in the middle of a huge ocean? Can you possibly get any dumber? What could they have possibly been thinking? Too much booze? Too many drugs? Too little food and fuel (were they gonna die anyway)?

I just keep looking at the calendar ... April 1. This is soooo crazy.

We are the world Police and Navy force protecting every country and every corporation with the US taxpayer dollar. Lets all pay more taxes for the right to protect other countries and big corporations.

Those pirates got just what they wanted - free food and lodging in the USA. They are going to feel like they have arrived in heaven.

Fire at a warship from a skiff?

I guess they don't screen these guys for intelligence before enlisting them in Captain Sparrow's fleet of misfits.

This problem won't go away until the warlords get some airmail ordinance from the international community and some relief to their impoverished support structure. Innocent people will keep getting kidnapped and ships/boats taken until we get to the heart of the matter and stop paying ransoms. I say "we" in the most general of sence.

Hmmm....We root for Capt. Jack Sparrow as we admire his swashbuckling, hell-take-the-devil attitude but we rail against the modern day version.

As for all those sports teams with the name "Pirates", perhaps we should rename them.

Go Pirates! Show the American Trading Company that their warships are not immune from reprisal should they stray into your waters.

To Arms! Man the Rails and ready the grappling hooks!...Steady boys! It's only a ship...and a lot smaller than those oil tankers we captured before...WAIT!...THEY HAVE GUNS!...BIG GUNS!.....TURN AROUND! TURN AROUND!

I'll bet not one of those comments has come from anyone who would/could/did actually serve in the military! Talk is cheap.

Shows how DESPERATE and STUPID these people are.
To fire on a US Naval Ship is stupid beyond belief, unless you have a 'death wish'!

Congrats to the crew of the USS Nicholas. Well Done! I liked the story except for the part about
"taking prisoners". This is the way it should be. WEAPONS FREE, anyplace, all the time. To the crew....Continued Good Luck & Good Hunting
