U.S. warship captures suspected pirate mother ship

The USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel and then captured it.

A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement.

The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby.

Love it, what a bunch of idiots! Why can't merchant ships employ countermeasures and travel in commercial convoys? Also love how Obama ramped up the drone attacks by 70% over Bush!

I agree, but when did attacking the USA become necessary for invasion? =)

3 guys seriously thought they could take a navy ship? Or were there only 3 survivors left in the skiff to arrest?

WAY TO GO NAVY!!! But next time DON'T capture the pirates. Just let them swim for their lives..........or whatever. Why bother wasting our dollars to give these people a "fair trial" and then turn them loose ...........to do the same thing over and over again. Good riddance to them and their kind.

See people, this is the reason why stupid people shouldn't breed. Trim them from the herd! I would have wiped both boats out and had a party!

    it dosent make sense.
why would a skiff shoot at a us naval vessel that has enough firepower to disenegrate them
either they felt like hot shits and could get away with it or the us just got a little too trigger happy

Actually I'm surprised that so far no bleeding heart pinko has complained about what "we bad Americans" do to those poor hungry pirates. Well done, Navy!

So they are now in US custody? Let me guess, Obama is going to protect them just as the Guantanamo prisoners because they have human rights, even if they had a zero brain moment of attacking a giant. Wanna bet on that?

Brunette: The mothership is another stolen ship – should return it to the rightful owner. What if someone stole your car and we crushed it when we caught them?

Rick: The pirates were operating in international waters and there is no consensus on what to do with pirates that haven't been caught red-handed – THAT is why there haven't been more pirates arrested. In this case, they should send them prison for attempted murder.

...and may I remind you that in Baby Bush's first days on the job a US spy plane was hit by a Chinese fighter jet. Bush practically rolled over on his back for tummy rubs while the Chinese ripped out all of our top secret hardware and software. Oh that's right, the lunatic fringe doesn't have long-term memories...

This is not a story to gloat about. These people are third world or below. Desperate people do desperate things when they are hungry, oppressed or forced to do things against their own will that they would not do in a normal situation. I am not saying what they did is right but there is more to the story then people care to understand and it is not funny, simple or a great victory.

These folks are about as bright as the Tea Baggers that planned on attacking a policeman's funeral. Talk about jumping into the lion's mouth.
