U.S. warship captures suspected pirate mother ship

The USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel and then captured it.

A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement.

The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby.

I don't know about this particular incident but I do know that previous stories like this have claimed the pirates are taken into custody. We never actually hear about these exact pirates again. Know why? We are NOT taking them into custody at all. Their ships are being destroyed and our boys watch them drown.
I see alot of comments calling for extreme measures and a lack of mercy. That is what is happening, you just aren't hearing about it.

Go Navy (yeah, right) - Pirates: 647 US Navy: 2
The US was only allowed to do something because it was directly attacked. Of course piracy is abominable, but don't think for a second the US can or will make a dent in it.

First, the claim that "Obama commanded the ship to fire" is wrong, by the time Obama heard about it, both boats were sunk, the pirates were in custody and the helicoptor sweeps in the area were almost completed. Obama had as much to do with this incident as Bush did in the act of capturing Saddam.

For those bleeding hearts whining about the "evil USA" in this case, get over your hatred/jealousy.

As for the RAH RAH Obama and RAH RAH Bush, get over that as well. They are both self obsorbed lying idiots. Or in simpler form, politicians. Want to root for a real hero? Go thank one of the hundreds of thousands in the US military, US Fire Fighters, US police officers, etc... People that place their own lives in jeojardy every day to make our lives a little safer and better.

And last but not least, get over yourselves alread...

The United States of America and all free nations of the world need to act swiftly, decisively, and without reservation in interdicting these lawwless maritime thugs. As in today's incident, the aggressors should be immediately neutralized, offered ONE CHANCE to surrender, and if not heeded, then appropriate measures (force) should be used to STOP the threat. We need to add force protection to our merchant ships so they can repel those pirates that would attempt to board a ship. Electronic sensors and other technology should be added to merchant ships so that sufficient advance notice is given so that the defenders (armed agents) can repel these creeps who sneak on to a ship under the dark of night trying to kidnap our loved ones. It is time for this nonsense to stop and the USA and free nations of the world need to set an example and briing this to an end.

I am proud to say I went to high school w/ the Captain of the Nicholas. What an honor to have a fellow '86 DeSmet Grad, serving our country, and getting a little action. Seriously, what were those clowns thinking attacking a military boat anyway? I guess even at sea, You Can't Fix Stupid!"
