U.S. warship captures suspected pirate mother ship

The USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel and then captured it.

A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement.

The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby.

... This is laughable, I mean really? Guerilla tactics only work on land. The US Navy could downsize by 200% and still be in a league of their own

They fired on a U.S. Warship? Were they on a little skiff? Come on lol what were they thinking. Glad to hear the U.S. ship actually went after them and got them.

Why don't we do this more often? These pirates serve no purpose other than to cause trouble and hijack ships that aren't their property. I would sink all of their ships! I hate to be that way, but we live in a different society these days.

Oh you have to love the ones that do not realize they are attacking a ship of war. I would like to hope it would deter future attacks, but the pirates are desperate enough to continue this type of action.

As a Navy wife whose husband is deploying over there it makes me very nervous to read stories such as this. But I take comfort in the fact that he has been trained by the greatest Navy in the world!!!!
