Officials: 67 militants killed in Pakistani airstrikes

Sixty-seven militants were killed Saturday in separate airstrikes in two areas of Pakistan's tribal region, officials tell CNN.

Two Pakistan intelligence officials said about 50 militants were killed in the valley of Tirah of Khyber Agency, one of the seven districts of Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

Officials say a meeting of the militants was under way when shelling from helicopters started. Officials say they received intelligence and then destroyed six militant hideouts.

Officials further informed CNN that in a second wave of air strikes on the hideouts of the militants in Orakzai Agency, 17 militants were killed and three hideouts were destroyed. The officials asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

This strikes came as the Pakistan military continues its push into tribal areas where both al Qaeda and Taliban operatives are believed to be hiding.

I love reading about Terrorist deaths. Just wish the number would be 600 or 6,000 or 60,000 or more. Can't we gather them all up in a big hole wearing their suicide vests and detonate them? Then they could be off to their 72 virgins.... Sounds like a Win-Win!

You think this will solve the problem? Absolutely "NOT" all this will do is create havoc for the people living in Pakistan by creatin a civil war...you think these so called "militants" that died today dont have families that will want revenge...they will come into the cities and do crazy extreme things to innocent people that dont deserver it....i dont know where it stops....and I certainly dont have all the answers but this is not the approach that should be taken by the pakistani military or the us govt....this is long from over and will spread like a cancer...!!

I always get a kick of the people that defend thesel militants saying it's Washington "bravado" , US puppets, etc- saying it's a right wing thing – well I have news – the "militants" don't care for Obama and news for you, Obama is far from right wing. Militants want to kill anyone that does not carry their ideology including beheadings, sharia law, yaddie yaddie yadda....so to all you people that defend these guys you had better think twice that we shouldn't target their little gatherings. I hope these folks realize that under the society that these wonderful militants want to establish that posting their comments on a public blog like this wouldn't be acceptable – If you want to talk smack about the country we live in then move to Iran or China where these types of blogs aren't allowed.

Their doing good with the offensive, keep up the momentum but dont let them regain ground. We really need these militants top leaders and their die hard supporters. we're only there since these exact militants who attacked up at 9/11 were stationed in the area. those savages must pay with their blood for the lives they took. they have something else in store if they think that suicide bombing will bring them to paradise

I think knocking out terrorists one by one or is groups is the right thing to do. Interesting how God is working via the good guys to get the bad guys. This approach will help to end those crazy lunatics to do anything crazy around the world anymore. Keep knocking em out NATO forces. And get Osama and put his head on a platter. There is not reason why this man should still be alive because all he promotes is terror around the world. One cannot turn the other cheek when it comes to fighting such evil dudes.
