Officials: 67 militants killed in Pakistani airstrikes

Sixty-seven militants were killed Saturday in separate airstrikes in two areas of Pakistan's tribal region, officials tell CNN.

Two Pakistan intelligence officials said about 50 militants were killed in the valley of Tirah of Khyber Agency, one of the seven districts of Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

Officials say a meeting of the militants was under way when shelling from helicopters started. Officials say they received intelligence and then destroyed six militant hideouts.

Officials further informed CNN that in a second wave of air strikes on the hideouts of the militants in Orakzai Agency, 17 militants were killed and three hideouts were destroyed. The officials asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

This strikes came as the Pakistan military continues its push into tribal areas where both al Qaeda and Taliban operatives are believed to be hiding.

It's good to see the terrorists feeling a bit of terror. Suddenly those who send others off to suicide know how it feels to be afraid.

When I always here about Pakistan having success in killing militants, it's like nothing changes the war. They're still bombings, attacks, etc. Just no progress whenever I here Pakistan doing something "successful".

Being from that region, I seriously doubt the accuracy and reliability of such claims. Whole of Pakistan is full of terrorists financed with Saudi oil money and arm supplied by America for last 50 years. Islamic ideology is the source of terrorism

The news in Pakistan continues to be good. Pakistan as a country has finally figured out that having armed militants within their borders that will turn violent against their nation as well as their neighboring country is not in their national interest. So long as Pakistan continues to work to deny the terrorists a safe haven, the likely end of war in that region and Afganistan and the end of the killing is within reach. The Taliban and Al Queda militants are begining to die out just as they were killed off in Iraq. Thank you Pakistan for realizing the obvious.

The sooner the Taliban hand over Osama's head, the sooner the U.S. will get out of Afghan! Period! End of story!

Trust us this time - you have no choice anyway! Given previous U.S. records, you can doubt but when Obama puts his mind to something, you don't want to be like the 3 Somali pirates! He ain't a wimpy liberal!

    Just watch! 🙂

Once the taliban terrorist are eliminated the alliance of NATO and the countries of Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan will all invade Iran. The country will be divided up between these conquering countries for the benefit or the whole world. For it is Iran that is the motherland of terrorism in the world.

YES!!!! Pakistan is finally realizing that they cannot allow a "shadow government" via Al Qeada or the Taliban to exist in their nation if they themselves want to continue to rule! Those units do not want any other form of government to exist and are like parasites that devour their hosts from the inside out. I knew that once the Pakistani government took their religious blinders off they would see the truth and the need for immediate action. Now all they need to do is take the tribal regions firmly under their control, no more "tribal leadership" and they will finally achieve true statehood.

MZ – what do you suggest? That the U.S. should just give up and allow those who harboned and aided 0-11 terrorist win a coup in Pakistan? The U.S. in its own right have every right to hunt down 9-11 terrorists and those who aided and abetted them.

This is fantastic news. These terrorists get what they deserve, the death penalty. Does anyone remeber Sept 11 or any civilian bombings in trains and markets, crowded with people? These terrorists just want to kill as many innocent people as they can at once. All you naysayers are on the wrong track. The less terrorists the better. Police all over europe have rounded up terrorists cells that were planning on mass destruction to property, mass people havoc, bent on killing as many people as possible with improvised explosive body vests. Get a clue. A dead terrorists is a good start.

Thank god we have an admistration in power who is serious about killing terrorists instead of one that looked at the money making (wasting) opportunity.

    Kill 'em all.
