Officials: 67 militants killed in Pakistani airstrikes

Sixty-seven militants were killed Saturday in separate airstrikes in two areas of Pakistan's tribal region, officials tell CNN.

Two Pakistan intelligence officials said about 50 militants were killed in the valley of Tirah of Khyber Agency, one of the seven districts of Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

Officials say a meeting of the militants was under way when shelling from helicopters started. Officials say they received intelligence and then destroyed six militant hideouts.

Officials further informed CNN that in a second wave of air strikes on the hideouts of the militants in Orakzai Agency, 17 militants were killed and three hideouts were destroyed. The officials asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

This strikes came as the Pakistan military continues its push into tribal areas where both al Qaeda and Taliban operatives are believed to be hiding.

One less fundamentalist to harm our brave men and women serving their country sounds good to me. Hate war but here we find ourselves. Keep praying for healing and a shift in human hearts and minds to peace on earth –we can't give up on seeing it be.....

In the mean time Hooah Nato troops and Pakistan for stepping up to take out the haters of freedom and of women and children!!!!!!

Stay strong and safe, come home soon to your families-help the people!

Seriously doubt that they successfully managed to kill 67 militants... like another comment pointed out, how is it that when the US kills 7 militants it ends up being 50 women and children in the press, but in this case the Pakistani Army kills dozens.

Nowadays, reading the news is like swallowing a full jar of pure mollasses... impossible.

Militant. What a term. Let's be clear who we are killing – Islamic terrorists. Much like our war against the Nazis, we will only win when they are completely destroyed. I wish Pakistan was capable of dealing with these cretins. Fortunately, the Obama administration has taken the war to those who would send all of us back to the Middle Ages or earlier. This has nothing to do with right wing thugs or other such nonsense. The only way to defeat a military enemy is by annihilating them. They asked for war. Let them taste how bitter it can be. When America acts in self defense, watch out. And this administration is not just talk like Bush II. Let's see when Iran's number comes up next.

LOL, Look out for news in the days to follow. Pakistan will be groveling for some aid money or an arms package. If not US will toss them a bone in the form of aid and arms to keep them interested. Its business as usual in Pakistan. Need aid, kill a bunch of people and beg for for it. When will US understand this mentality. US is like the golden goose for Pakistan. Pakistan has hit the jackpot with this whole 'war on terror'. They are laughing their way to the bank.

It's more like 6.7 killed. 6 Civilians and .7 militant. The Pak army doesn't know the difference between civilians and the talib. They inflate their "Battlefield numbers" to impress their Washington masters.

MZ is totally correct. The Taliban aka militants are a cancer and are thus being treated to defeat it. I wish you liberals would move to the middle east.

MZ, The Pakistanis have already tried the policy of appeasement in Swat. This policy has only resulted in strengthening of militant's position and in expansion of terrorist's operations. All-in-all, please read-up on Mr. Chamberlain and his policies of appeasement. Different times, different evil ideology, but the same principles still apply.

Who knows who we're blowing up over there, or why... Translate this into German, and I'd believe it was written by Goebbels himself.

I applaud the successful air strikes. Civilian casualties will always occur when military action and civilian life are intermingled the way the extremists do. One must never forget that the Muslim faith is an aggressive one. Notice how there is always trouble on the geographical outskirts of the Muslim faith. Lebanon used th be Christan, ergo civil war. Bosnia, Chechnya, Nigeria, Sudan, Kashmir, Indonesia. Pacifists makes me sick

It will be a great pleasure, if the Parkistani military can crush all the militants in Parkistan.

At least Pakistan has no intention of paying out monitary damages to taliban sempathizers, like the U.S. is doing in Afganistan.

Are you sure that all of these "militants" were not just armed with cameras? From a helicopter or plane they both look the same, right?

    James Yee-

You really think that the Paks are just "mercenaries"?? Hello, even when the Pak government gave the FATA and Waziristan areas self-government, those guys were still bombing and attacking central Pakistan, as WELL as killing moderate muslims and mullahs who did not follow the Taliban or Al Qaeda hard line... That's right– bombing and destroying schools that taught girls how to read, killing village elders who did not agree with Taliban activities, and so on... Boy, I guess those "mercenary" Pakistani's are just doing our "dirty work"... Good job Pakistan- keep defending your own people and your own territory from evil men...
