Romney wins Southern GOP straw poll

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney won a straw poll Saturday at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

Romney, who received 439 votes of 1,806 cast - or 24 percent of the ballots - defeated former presidential contender Ron Paul by a single vote.

Sarah Palin came in third, garnering 18 percent of the votes.

I am a Mormon, born and raised in Utah. I wouldn't vote for Romney though. He is a warmonger, just like McCain, W Bush, Dick Cheney, Sara Palin and most of the GOP.

GOP is the party of war. They do value the lives of the unborn, but only so they can grow up to die in needless wars. The GOP is the only entity on the planet that still thinks the invasion of Iraq was the right thing to do.

Gee, now there's a headline that tells the whole story.

    How about:

Romney Edges Out Paul by One Vote in Southern GOP Straw Poll

    or

Palin Loses Southern GOP Straw Poll to Romney and Paul

So it turns out that not all Republicans are as dumb as the Teabaggers. Romney and Paul are the only candidates I could stomache from that party. Thanks the gods.

Excellent. He's from Massachussetts, and he didn't even attend the event, and yet he still won.

    Go Romney 2012!

As I said before- the Republican Party needs to get serious and recruit the best Republican candidates. The 2 best candidates are Joh Huntsman, Jr. and Paul Ryan.

This is great! I am loving it! Congratulations Gov. Romney! Romney is the only one who knows how to get us out of this mess that Obama and his cronies in Washington created. Can't wait for 2012!

The only people I would vote for in the coming Republican Presidential Primary are: former US Rep., Thomas Tancredo or Patrick J. Buchanan, or his sister, Bay Buchanan, or Dr. Patrick Choate, PhD or someone of the same America First political point of view. None of the speakers at this Republican meeting meet my approval other than they and I believe that none of those were invited. Its time that the REpublican Party make a major change of course and start advocating policies that will strengthen the Republic and Protect the American People such as repudiating Globalist Policies such as: "Free-trade", and outsourcing, wild and un-Constitutional foreign wars, trillion $$ deficit spending, and complete failure to protect our national borders and coastlines from Illegal-aliens and terrorists, and drug runners.

*sigh* Stories like this are depressing. Ron Paul won the last straw poll and only loses this one by one vote and yet there is no way he would ever be elected Pres. Damn you CNN for giving me false hope.

If anyone could pull us out of an economic slump faster, with room to spare, is would be this man.

So 18 percent of the Republicans think Sarah Palin is intelligent enough, actually, to run our country and engage in meaningful foreign policy relationships with leaders around the world?

Makes me wonder what percentage of them think the earth is flat?

He won by ONE vote over Ron Paul. More hard-hitting reporting, CNN.

Ron Paul is the only contender with any hope of winning over any disillusioned democrats.

Notably, Mitt Romney gave out free tickets if his supporters promised to vote for him. At the event, he handed out free merchandise.

Also, 40 of Ron Paul's supporters were unable to vote. It seems that the poll could have easily gone the other way, and Dr. Paul could have won by a long-shot.

Ron Paul is the best the GOP has to offer. He must get a little twitch whenever Sarah Palin is around. He is the opposite of her in almost every way: he's smart, he understands the issues, he's in politics for the right reasons (a genuine desire to serve the public), he has integrity (his motives and actions are what they seem to honest people). Being a Democrat, I hope Sarah Palin keeps successfully seeking out experiences that expand her ego, to the point that she actually runs for Prez.
