No charges in Roethlisberger case

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not face criminal charges, a Georgia district attorney said Monday.

Roethlisberger was accused last month of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman at a Milledgeville, Georgia, nightspot.

"The sexual allegation against Mr. Roethlisberger cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt," said Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright. "Therefore, there will be no arrest made, nor criminal prosecution of Mr. Roethlisberger for his actions here on March 5, 2010."

My question for Ben is why didn't you charter a jet to Vegas, get a private room with private entertainment, and have a great party instead of hanging out in a college bar?

Are you that big of a loser that you need that type of affirmation?

When the supposed victim cannot even remember if she had sex she makes an extremely poor witness. Mom and dad need to send said young woman to rehab and counseling for substance abuse for starters.

Sounds like a lot of the people on this board want to call any celebrity who is charged with anything guilty, just because they are rich and famous. Roethlisberger may be a d-bag, but that isn't a crime.

"Beyond a reasonable doubt"? Isn't that for a jury of his peers to decide?

Statistically, there is only a 3% chance that a report of rape is false.

I personally know Mr. Bright and I can tell you that he is fair. He should be credited with using his position sparingly and isn't willing to destroy someone on a case which can't be won. Look at Nifong from North Carolina who was determined to destroy the Duke players over the allegation by a prostitute. Those boys lives were just about ruined by a prosecutor trying to get reelected.

If you wanna continue to be a steeler and a part of one of the classiest organization in sports, stay out of trouble. It makes me sick how someone with power and fame has special privileges when it comes to the judicial system. The man is a pig, he may be a great football player but, as a person, I think he is garbage.

    Happens once, Shame on You!
Happens twice (or more), Shame on Me!
Just look at the MJ trouble.
If Roth is innocent, he just stupid for putting himself in this position, at least twice!

If the man's name is published then the accusers should be also. Maybe that would stop some of the charges being made that turn out later to be "baseless". Also would be curious to know if a "settlement" took place and that's why this was dropped.

Rothlissberger's manager got the VIP room at the club for R-berger and the girl. Then R-berger got more drinks to give this girl who is not of age to drink. It is clear he had one idea in his tiny little d-brain – that was to have sex with her in any way he could. If she was so drunk, legally she could not give consent. If R-berger was not in NFL, he would have his sorry butt in jail and the case would go to trial. The girl didn't use good judgment but neither did R-berger and he is of age and should know better than to put himself in positions like this. She used bad judgement that was assisted by the use of alcohol pushed on her by R-berger. Those of you who think he is innocent and she is just after money should read a bit more about this. R-berger's manager gave police the info about the VIP room where the girl was raped!

The fact that this wont even make it to trial is testimant to the fact that this was a baseless claim. If there was even a shread of evidence the DA would file charges and let a jury of his peers deceide his fate.

Sexual assualt is a terrible thing and needs to be punished, but accusing someone of sexual assault when it is in fact a baseless claim is just as bad. As far as Im concerned charges should be filed against the gold digger for filing a false police report! Send her to jail!

Just gives me one more reason to hate the Steelers. The hospital says she had bruising, bleeding, and a laceration on her genital that night she went in.

Don't know if Ben is guilty or not. But suspicious that this is his second sexual assualt accusation in a short time. Don't hear too many other celibrity atheletes having this problem.
