No charges in Roethlisberger case

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not face criminal charges, a Georgia district attorney said Monday.

Roethlisberger was accused last month of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman at a Milledgeville, Georgia, nightspot.

"The sexual allegation against Mr. Roethlisberger cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt," said Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright. "Therefore, there will be no arrest made, nor criminal prosecution of Mr. Roethlisberger for his actions here on March 5, 2010."

To those who want the woman's name printed.. If the D.A. thought the allegations were completely false the charges would have been against the woman for filing a false report.
They D. A. said "said beyond a reasonable doubt" not that there was no evidence of anything.
With 2 accusations against him maybe Mr. Roethberger should be more careful who he is partying with.

Nobody will ever really know what really happened. If Ben did nothing as stated orginally, he is guilty according to everyone. If Ben did something according to everybody he is guilty. It is a no win situation. Since the girl decided not to press charges perhaps it was all false. Either way he is still guilty. He could have sat on the bar stool the whole time and still be considered guilty. Lets face it everyone wants to see stars or athletes crucified because of the money they make, who they are, teams they play for etc. Do I think maybe he kissed or something – maybe. Not sure, but they seem to not have enough and her backing out makes me think nothing did happen. Either way – Ben needs to get his head together – stay out of bars. The young girl needs to as well. She was under age and should maybe grow up a little as well.

That was the 2nd time he was accused? Got off again for not enough evidence? Seems like where there's smoke there's fire. The great Mr R best keep his hands to himself because chances are 3rd time will not be the charm.

Where there's smoke, there's fire and this is the THIRD time ... but if Ben Roesthlisberger is engaging in inappropriate or unlawful behavior with women, he WILL eventually be caught.

I am inclined to agree with some of the other commenters here in that WHY is the district attorney playing judge and jury? Their job is to determine if the case is feasible - NOT to decide whether or not the evidence is beyond a reasonable doubt. That's the jury's job. The gal should have had her day in court. It's a shame the family has declined charges, but I guess that's what happens when you compare the average family's checkbook against that of a famous athlete.

And for all those who are saying these females are gold-diggers, you need to get your facts straight. The gal who has the current suit offered to drop everything if he would just apologize. He refused. What a tool.

  9. Listen to the Whole Story

Everyone who's saying he did it and got away with it, listen to the DA's press conference. The "victim" dropped the charges becuase she "just wants to forget it all." They asked for his DNA and dropped the request once Ben agreed to it. Something's a little fishy with those two things...if the DNA would prove he did something wrong, why not take it? If you were a victim, wouldn't you want justice? Even the girls friends said that night she was too drunk and shouldn't have been where she was. If she was that drunk, how can we believe what she's saying (espeically given her recent actions)? Ben needs to watch himself and grow up for sure but there's no solid facts against him in this case.

Good for him. I would say it is safe to bet this woman was trying to cash in on someone else's fame. Too bad for her. I hope her next encounter DOES end up like she claimed the last one did. Would serve her right for calling wolf, and being and underaged drinker. Dumb twit.

Why is trolling bars for sex in bathrooms? He's a creep. He should stick to playing football – he's not successful at anything else. Why doesn't he have a girlfriend?

It is time for FANS to speak out. It is the FANS that created these idiotic morons by putting them on display as gods..... They are athletes for godsake.....Overpaid, ego-inflated dopes who don't have a lick of common sense on how to handle fame and fortune. They are so lucky to be where they are....I know some people will say they are talented.....come on...they are playing games.....we have soldiers, police, fire and ems that put their lives on the line to serve others....who do these athletes serve???? No one but themselves and their owners. And then they think they are above the law.....

All the celebrity status in the sports and entertainment world is ridiculous. From Ben Roethlisberger, Gilbert Arenas, Charlie Sheen, ..... who is at fault - the FANS for buying things that make these people rich. Stop going to the movies and renting DVDs....Stop buying jerseys and over priced tickets.... Are these events really that important to us? Why not spend the $75 for a steeler game ticket on a homeless veteran who fought for our freedom....Why not donate the $10 movie ticket money to a emergency service workers relief fund.....

Time to do a reality check in this world. Stop putting the money in the hands of greedy athletes and owners and give it to someone who can really use it. Give it to the real HEROs...not the ZEROs.

what did Ben get away with? do you know? NOBODY knows, but what we do know is there was no rape, that bruise on the head? can't be much of anything if we never saw pics or lawyer on her side playing that card – i'm a steelers fan, disappointed with Ben, but at the end of the day, what really happened? people have to realize that it was not a rape. She probably did get a settlement – we'll find out when the NFL and the Rooneys find out what really happened.

Ben never denied that he had sexual contact with either of these women. If it was assult or not only the parties involved know. Ben is definitely guilty of stupidity and you would think he would have learned his lesson with the last one and keep Little Ben safely tucked away. Maybe he needs find a nice girl and have a real relationship instead of the quickies. Then again I hear he is not a nice guy himself. He may still be taking the same train out of town as Holmes. The Rooney's won't put up with this lifestyle.
