No charges in Roethlisberger case

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not face criminal charges, a Georgia district attorney said Monday.

Roethlisberger was accused last month of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman at a Milledgeville, Georgia, nightspot.

"The sexual allegation against Mr. Roethlisberger cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt," said Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright. "Therefore, there will be no arrest made, nor criminal prosecution of Mr. Roethlisberger for his actions here on March 5, 2010."

You have to watch the DA's conference to understand the outcome - tragic, but logical. The DNA sample was too small to establish a profile of who's DNA it was (I don't know why there was such a small "sample"). Thus, it would not mattered if Ben had a DNA test b/c there was nothing to compare it to. Rape was the only charge considered. No other charges fit the allegations. The definition of rape has three parts 1) carnal knowledge/intercourse 2) forcibly 3) against her will. The DA he said he could not prove any of these three beyond a reasonable doubt, no less all of them based on the evidence he had. When questioned after the event by police, the girl said "no" to the question of was she raped? She did admit to having sex. The DA met with the girl and her parents during the investigation and said they did not want to prosecute and just wanted to their privacy. Thus, no charges. The girls friends were not allowed into the VIP room b/c of the body guards. They saw this coming, but could do nothing. They pushed this situation to the cops after it occurred b/c the victim was still very drunk. Her faculties during the initial questioning were in doubt.

Anyone want to make a bet that Mr. Rooney, in the past hour or so, HASN'T read Big Ben "the Riot Act"??

I don't know what happened and neither does anyone but the accuser and Ben. But what I do know is that a 28-year old 2-time Super Bowl winning QB shouldn't be trolling college bars. If stupidity and immaturity were crimes, Roethlisberger would't get out of jail until after Brett Farve retires. I think Roger Goodell and Art Rooney Jr will have a nice "come to Jesus" meeting with Ben. Unless he wants to be jettisoned like Burress and Holmes, Ben better get his act together.

Wait a minute here! From the posts everyone assumes that the guy actually did this and he is getting away with it because he is rich!! Prosecutors love to add fame, glory, and "stars" to their names so you can't tell me that they wouldn't "love" to go after him. Simply, it bacame a he said / she said with no evidence from the woman to back this up. Maybe she shouldn't have gotten together with him in the first place. The justice system works with evidencce not words!!

Why aren't more of the comments supporting Ben? This sounds like a money grubbing B... to me. We will never know the truth of it, but she is claiming to have been groped. She went out drinking with him and his buddies for hours. I am not sure if he did it or not and neither is anyone. However what if he had? Yes it would have been wrong. The only reason this woman would have said anything about it is because she was digging for gold. If he had just been a poor nobody she would have ignored it or slapped him on the face and that would have been it. This woman was looking for a pay-day, plain and simple.

For anyone that thinks that every girl that comes out and says they were "sexually assulted" by a famous person is telling the truth you are as dumb as the girls are that think they will just be given a lot of money to shut up. Ben just is smart enough not to pay a girl off when he knows he didnt do anything to her. Girls lie to get what they want

You rape somebody, there are always evidence in this age of DNA. There is something fishy here. Is the woman lying? if so then prosecute her to the fullest extend of the law so this kind of get ricjh quick schemes should stop. If he raped her and even if there is no evidence but the victim is reliable wtness, then let the jury decide. It is the American way. Or do we have American for the rich and American for the rest of us folks?

What IF there is really no crime, then who gets ruined? the accused. Celebrity justice? Actually they suffer the most, IF there is no crime, but all allegations. They are not getting away with murder.

The last time I was in Milledgeville (my birthplace) it was a run down rinky dink town. I guess it grew after that to a big enough to for a NFL player to hang out there. Anyway Ben stay out of trouble,if you need to mess around have them sign a consent form to cover your butt. I think all famous people should do that because to many are getting charges brought against them for sexual assault.

Involvement in dog fighting is a crime but sexual assault isn't? I'm sure it helped that he's white.

I used to live in South Lake Tahoe and was involved in the American Century Celebrity Championship, the golf tournament Ben was attending at the time his prior accusations occured. Some of my friends who are young pretty girls had met Roethlisberger one day and given him their phone #'s. He then called one of them and left a lude and sexually explicit message urging the girl to come to his hotel room. Nothing criminal, but an indication of Roethlisberger's character.

Not surprised – girl too intoxicated – but with this said – Ben needs to keep his zipper closed! He is acting so immature and needs to grow up. The DA was correct, in saying that he needs to be a role model
