Israeli forces said Friday they killed a Palestinian gunman who was trying to plant an explosive near a security fence in northern Gaza Strip.
The gunman was spotted in the area, and security forces saw the man throw a hand grenade, an Israeli Defense Forces statement said.
Security forces fired at the man, killing him, security officials said.
This incident comes just days after two Palestinians were killed in central Gaza in an exchange of gunfire with the Israeli army. Troops said they saw the men trying to plant explosives.
"The presence of Palestinian civilians in the area adjacent to the security fence in Gaza is used by terrorist organizations as cover for their activities, including planting explosive devices" the IDF said in a statement. "For this reason, the IDF considers this a combat zone."
