Obama slams Arizona immigration bill

President Obama criticized a controversial new immigration bill in Arizona on Friday, calling it "misguided."

"Our failure to act responsible at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others. That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe," the president said at a naturalization ceremony for members of the military.

"In fact, I've instructed members of my administration to closely monitor the situation and examine the civil rights and other implications of this legislation. But if we continue to fail to act at the federal level, we will continue to see misguided efforts opening up around the country."

He added, "As a nation, as a people, we can choose a different future - a future that keeps faith with our history, with our heritage, and with the hope that America has always inspired in the hearts of people all over the world."

We don't want illegal aliens like store owners don't want shoplifters. But nothing gives store owners the right to randomly search & question its patrons, so why should the authorities have the right to do that to any random citizen just be cause the WAY SOMEONE LOOKS, ie, not white. They should just call this a "legal racial profiling bill". While they're at it, they should just get rid of the hate crime law, affirmative action, hell, let's just get rid of the entire civil rights movement.

We are clearly in the midst of an administration that has a completely convoluted concept of reality and law. It is lawless and ruthless. I have not seen anything come from this guy that does not spell socialism, i.e. soviet style big government power, absence of real individual freedom, and less for those who work. He hates business and the upper and middle class, as well.
What I see as the next step here is amnesty combined with continued open borders. Believe me folks he sees illegals as "votes"!

This AZ law would allow law enforcement to stop anyone anytime without cause or suspicion to show proof of citizenship or legal documents. So dont you think that they will be dicriminatory based on what you look like in determining who they stop? Sounds very Un-American to me.

Arizona is the only state that has the back bone to enforce the law. If other states would follow suit it would send a cleat message that we enforce laws not look the other way. This has gone on way too long and needs to be controlled NOW. It won't; instead a loophole of some sort will be found and this will be deemed unconstitutional. Then we will get an immigration reform bill passed and all illegals will have their legal residency. How as a nation do we think that will help with illegal immigration? More will come becasue they figure if they stick it out here long enough they too eventually will get amnesty. We tried this in the 80's and it obviously didn't work. Wake Up America.

The President should try being a farmer in Arizona for a few months. I think he would see
    things much differently.

Both parties have been "playing around" with the immigration issue not just Obama. This immigration issue is more than 90 % a Mexican problem and it should be addressed as such from the start. However all parties avoid to tag the "Mexican" word to this issue.

This bill is too stupid even for Republican standards. It is not going to pass anyways.
The intent of stopping illegals is the right intent, but giving the police officers the ability to stop anybody at will because they had "Reasonable Suspicions", opens up room for abuse and racial profiling.
In it's current form, it means that for example because Jose, whos is dark skinned but is a perfectly legal resident, he could be stopped by the pollice officers, 20 times a day or more, simply because they had "Reasonable Suspicions" that he is not a legal resident.
Even if the governor signs it (or not sign it because it would still pass if she doesn't), it will be scrapped in two weeks, because (again) Republicans don't seem to have the ability to see the problems a law like this could cause until it's actually in motion.

Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came
You know I do really hate to say it
    The government don't wanna see
    But if Roosevelt was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no

Igonarance!! "Americans" came to this land as immigrants, and history tells us that they did it illegally...this land belonged to the natives, and we just took them from them. Yes, we should protect our borders, but we should show compassion to those in need. Most of them (illegal immigrants) come to work, yes there are some who are criminals, but what race is without them?

Obama is forgetting about Americans and is putting immigrant's rights ahead of U.S. citizens. Americans have first rights to the benefits of the United States Government! Obama has literally placed a priority on the rights of illegal aliens and shifted attention from his own. Obama has clutched into ignorance, dug in his heels and refuses to listen to the high decible cries of the Amerca public that he was elected to serve. Illegals are syphoning the life out of the United States. God Bless the illegals, but they need to go back home and take their country back from the drug warlords and create their own civilized country.

Illegal Immigrants only get jobs that "citizens" do not wish to have. Being a US citizen is unique, but just because you come to this country trying to get a better future for your family, doesn't make you a criminal. Of course there are exceptions, but most illegal imigrants come here to sacrifice, families get separated, they work with fear, make a lot more money than in their countries, for their families. Try doing their jobs, cleaning bathrooms, trash removal, dishwashers, catering, housekeeping etc. Because an illegal woud have to be very lucky to get a better job than that!!!

If there were no jobs they would not be here. When is this debate going to turn to the real culprits EMPLOYERS. If you were on the other side you would be crossing rivers to get here also. Don't blame the people. You betcha.
