Aliens probably no friends of yours, Hawking says

Think you'd like to see aliens make contact with Earth?  Stephen Hawking might get you to think again.

Aliens, the way he sees it, might be traveling the cosmos right now - not for exploration's sake but because they've run out of resources at home.

And if they're flying around looking for resources, guess what their intentions would be if they see Earth?

The British physicist advances his thoughts on aliens in his new Discovery Channel series, "Into the Universe With Stephen Hawking," which began airing Sunday.

In a video clip on Discovery Channel's website, Hawking imagines that aliens might have the technology to harness energy from whatever star they're near. The process, he proposes, could open a wormhole that could let them travel large distances - perhaps to here.

The clip shows spacecraft leaving a wormhole and approaching Earth as ominous music plays.

"Like us, they would probably have evolved from a species used to exploiting whatever it can," a narrator says.

Hawking's warning contrasts with the excitement some are showing about the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Just last week, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) said it was releasing its data to astronomers and researchers all over the world, hoping more people would join the search.

Hawking's series on the Discovery Channel continues this coming Sunday at 9 p.m.  ET.

If we were to meet aliens, do you know what would happen during First Contact? The government has a whole procedure outlined using the military and isolation facilities, bioexaminations and basically treating the guests like bioterrorists. Great way to establish the connection. No wonder any intelligent extraterra life has not made their presence known to us.

I honestly think they would have more to fear from us than vice versa.

Hawking is still human and therefore still arrogant in the belief that earth is significant in the grand theme of things. He is assuming that Aliens have an interest in us and our failing planet. An advanced species will most likely have no interest in us at all. We walk by an anthill with merely a glance or not even noticing because it is insignificant to us. Why would an Alien race, with advanced technologies that enable them to travel anywhere in the cosmos, even give us a second glance?

I do not know whether or not aliens exist on other planets and neither does Mr. Hawkings. If thiey did exist why do they always have to be smarter than we are? Also why do they always have to be evil? This comment suggests to me that perhaps Mr Hawkings should consider combing forces with James Cameron and produce a sdi-fi film.

They would use us as lobor workers to mine for their needed resources as they did when they came the last time, for the same resources...They manipulated our DNA, used us as slaves/workers and then left us here. THE END.

A problem with Hawking’s opinion is that he fails to take the evolution of consciousness into consideration. Any aliens that are so advanced as to develop the technology to travel here would also have learned that cooperation is also a part of evolution. In the long term, we will survive on this planet only if we learn to cooperate and see that humanity is one. Aliens would probably already have learned this or they would have killed one another off long before arriving to earth.

Then God said, "Let US make man in OUR image, in OUR likeness, andLET THEM RULE OVER the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Makes you wonder whom God the Father was speaking to other than Yeshua.

If they have the means to visit us, they have the means to synthesize/grow pretty much anything they require. No point in visiting a planet such as ours for resources.

I think that its hysterical that people always assume that aliens are like us. What an ego!!

"Like us, they would probably have evolved from a species used to exploiting whatever it can," a narrator says. Why would you think they are like us?? How can you assume what their mission would be and how friendly or unfriendly they would be? Wait! I do know! Because the only thing you have to base any of this on is the human race and thats exactly what we would do. How many times over history have we destroyed a group of people to get what they had? Off the top of my head american indians.

If they are truly intelligent they would have abandoned their technology and gone back to a basic sustenance existence. I mean is it really working for us?

Just because humans are war like doesn't mean all intelligent life is like us.
We judge everything by the way we act.
The planets of our solar system and other systems all have elements that can be mined without going to war with us.

Who's to say aliens won't acquire a taste for humans, the way we love our beef, pork, and chickens? Although this might help solve a problem the MSM loves to fret about: overpopulation-caused global warming & pollution.

I follow Stephen Hawking's theories. That's why I clicked the link. As far as DiscoveryTV is concerned, any channel that will broadcast Sarah Pa;in is withour merit, withour scruples and without intelligience. Earthly or alien.

I bet the aliens will arrive in a thousand years after all the people are gone, and they will look at the remains of our buildings, decipher Earth language (aka American English) and unravel the history of mankind. In their alien textbooks it will say "The assassination of Archduke Fedinand precipiated the first human world war, and the subsequent election of George W. Bush as president of the US with 8 Earth years of science denial brought about rapid climate change resulting in the humans quickly dying out from lack of food."

I used to get a little humor out of shows like Star Trek where when they discovered a planet with less civilized beings evolving on it they would leave them to evolve peacefully without intervention. Us humans in reality, from what we have all seen, would exploit their planet for what it´s worth, and enslave the indeginous people into the same type of system we ourselves are slaves to, or worse.
