Mexico issues advisory for Arizona

Mexico's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued an advisory to Mexicans living and working in Arizona following the signing of a controversial law to stem illegal immigration in that state.

In Arizona "there is a negative political environment for migrant communities and for all Mexican visitors," the advisory states.

The new law requires Arizona police to determine whether people are in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect they aren't.

Although the new law doesn't go into effect until 90 days after the close of the state's legislative session, the Mexican government advised its citizens in Arizona to begin carrying all immigration documents with them immediately "to avoid needless confrontations."

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, signed the controversial legislation into law Friday. Supporters say it is needed to control illegal immigration.

The advisory points Mexicans in Arizona to the state's five Mexican consulates for legal advice if they feel they have been subjected to abuse by authorities.

"As long as no clear criteria are defined for when, where and who the authorities will inspect, it must be assumed that every Mexican citizen may be harassed and questioned without further cause at any time," the advisory states.

Just like ANYONE else, if you are not breaking the law, you have no worries. And you won't be bothered. (OF course since Bush's Administration, ANY US citizen can be stopped at any time for any reason a cop wants to drum up.) So to the illegals I say, welcome to the same system the rest of us legals live under.
I wish all states passed this legis

So I'm assuming many of you are proponents of an NATIONAL ID that most countries have that you have to carry around with you at all times, no?

And as it says, this isnt an illegal alien issue, this is a race/profile issue. It is being codified into law that if you "look" a certain way that you can be pulled over by the police. Of course this has been happening unofficially to blacks and hispanics for years, but never has it been written into law (but in more PC terms)

Believe me, this isnt aimed at Poles or Ukrainians living in Arizona illegally.

This is great, I think the whole country should adopt this. And those who are saying this is unconstiutional then they should realize that the Constituion applies to Americans if they are legal then they should not worry about it. My family came here legally and they had to go through the motions I don't see why the illegal immigrants should get a break! Send them back and have them come through on the proper channels!

Haven't you ever seen the cops get it wrong? Will the cops look for illegals from, say, Romania or Russia? I bet white people with fair hair or black people will never be stopped and asked about their status.

"What's new here is that the police is supposed to go up to people who they think might LOOK illegal and make them prove otherwise.

Funny that you chastised someone for proper English before you wrote that, on two levels.

    1. The police 'is' supposed to go up to people?
    2. No they aren't. A person needs to commit some sort of violation, e.g. traffic, shoplifting, loitering etc., in order for the cop to ask for ID.

The ones that are mad are here illegally. GO THE HELL HOME! We didnt ask you here, we dont want you here! Even here in Charlotte N.C. we are overrun with immigrants. You walk into a resturant and stand behind someone that cant speak English (THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE!!!!) and have to wait to order until the bas%&rd can be translated. EVERY STATE SHOULD ADPOT THIS LAW!!!! If you try to enter another country like these people do they would lock you up. GO ARIZONA!!!

It's not only illegal immigrant's who have to carry proof of residence. Everyone does, including white people. Read the bill. I shouldn't be required to carry all this information to prove I'm here legally. What if it gets lost/stolen in the process? Then my information is floating around for anyone to use. Great idea!

And to all you racist assholes...we live in America for a reason. It's so we don't have to live in a place of fear. People have been coming here for centuries to better their lives. In fact, America wasn't founded by American citzens, it was founded by immigrants. Read your history books.

Another reason to never go to Mexico. If their people would rise up and take control of the country then maybe Mexico would be a better place instead of the third world hell hole it has become.
