Mexico issues advisory for Arizona

Mexico's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued an advisory to Mexicans living and working in Arizona following the signing of a controversial law to stem illegal immigration in that state.

In Arizona "there is a negative political environment for migrant communities and for all Mexican visitors," the advisory states.

The new law requires Arizona police to determine whether people are in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect they aren't.

Although the new law doesn't go into effect until 90 days after the close of the state's legislative session, the Mexican government advised its citizens in Arizona to begin carrying all immigration documents with them immediately "to avoid needless confrontations."

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, signed the controversial legislation into law Friday. Supporters say it is needed to control illegal immigration.

The advisory points Mexicans in Arizona to the state's five Mexican consulates for legal advice if they feel they have been subjected to abuse by authorities.

"As long as no clear criteria are defined for when, where and who the authorities will inspect, it must be assumed that every Mexican citizen may be harassed and questioned without further cause at any time," the advisory states.

The anger I read in this post is bigger than this subject matter. Why is everyone so upset?

Some say as long as you are legal there will be no problem. At first I too thought this. BUT...if I am brown and don't speak English very well...or am cutting grass outside, I may easily be 'picked out' for 'reasonable suspicion.' Forcing even citizens to carry papers at all times is truly reminiscent of Hitler ad Stalin's policies.

What bothers me about this situation is how difficult (or easy) would it be for terrorists to enter or country in this manor 9 years after 9/11.

Hope the bleeding hearts invite the "illegal" aliens to move to their neighborhood.....then see how sympathetic they are.
This is my country TOO....not Mexico North. Pay your dues if you want to be a US citizen, if you don't like it...get the hell out of my country.

You people are missing the point. Everyone wants to send Illegals back. The point is that citizens will be harassed if they look Hispanic. The rest of the country doesn't realize there are millions of Hispanic people in the southwest whose ancestors built AZ, NM, TX, and CA. Their families have been here for generations, but they will be asked for "papers" because they are darker skinned or have Hispanic names. Citizens have never had to carry papers to prove they belong here. When they start targeting blond blue eyed suspicious people, then you will be upset.

Mexican should advise citizen to enter the US the proper way which the front door and not jumping over fences. AZ doesn't have a choice because they are so overwhelmed by crime and cost.

Just one point... People that are here illegally HAVE NO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS... Only natural born AMERICANS or Naturalized Citizens have Constitutional rights... true, there is a due process and that will be followed, but please stop referring to their Constitutional rights being violated...
